Zachary Hanshew
FantasyPros
After four seasons with Gang Green as one of the team's top options, Anderson joins a Panthers team with a lot of mouths to feed. The deep-threat receiver has totaled 18 touchdowns over the last three seasons, while averaging 15 yards per reception. He can still be a fantasy-relevant contributor in 2020, though his week-to-week consistency will likely take a hit.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Anderson is one of only three NFL players along with Mike Evans and Kenny Golladay to rank among the league's top 20 wideouts in yards per reception while catching 50 or more passes in each of the past two seasons. With new Carolina quarterback Teddy Bridgewater having been more of a dink-and-dunk specialist in recent years, expect Anderson's 2020 output to lack consistency.Exhibiting skills that are similar to those of Rams receiver Robert Woods, Jefferson is a tough receiver and savvy route runner who played a big part in Joe Burrow's breakout year at LSU. More of a complementary player than a true No. 1, Jefferson will have a chance to contribute as a rookie opposite Adam Thielen with Stefon Diggs having been dealt by Minnesota in March.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
After four long years on the Jets, Anderson gets a fresh start in Carolina where he'll catch passes from Teddy Bridgewater. While some may consider Bridgewater an upgrade over Sam Darnold, I don't think he's the best QB for a WR like Anderson. Anderson is known for being a deep threat and Bridgewater has never been known as a QB who goes deep. That could lead to some down weeks but he'll definitely have his big games as well. I'd stash him and use him in favorable, likely high scoring matchups.Jefferson steps directly into the WR2 role for the Vikings after the departure of Stefon Diggs this offseason. With no preseason it may take Jefferson a couple of weeks to get acclimated, but over 16 games, he should see the most targets of any rookie wideout. He's definitely someone worth targeting at the end of drafts.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
It's hard to see exactly how Robby Anderson will fit into the Panthers offense, but it's fair to say he'll provide more real-life benefit than fantasy benefit. With Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore sucking in 130+ targets each and Curtis Samuel and Ian Thomas sucking up 160+ between them, Anderson will need the Panthers to throw a lot to get a useful amount of targets. Luckily, the Panthers look like they'll be awful this year and that could mean massive passing volume. It'll be more efficient with Teddy Bridgewater at the controls too. It fair to assume Anderson can manage 900-odd yards with half a dozen TDs and that would be good enough for a cusp WR3. That's nothing special but he's the kind of guy that needs to be drafted in every league, even though you're never excited to draft him.Justin Jefferson has regularly been under-estimated compared to the big three of Ruggs, Lamb and Jeudy and that's simply not an accurate representation of his ability. Now falling into a brilliant opportunity in the wide-open Minnesota back-field, Jefferson will get the perfect chance to prove himself and I believe he's the rookie you want in 2020. He's expected to play mostly out of the slot but showed in 2018 that he's very capable of bouncing outside so he should play on most downs. Adam Thielen's stats prove that the slot snaps are most valuable in Minnesota so Jefferson should be the hot ticket in town. Excitingly, he's available well into the double-digit rounds and is the perfect late-round dart throw, especially in PPR.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Switching teams as a wide receiver this offseason seems... less than ideal. It does help, however, when there's a new quarterback on that team, as well as a coach you've played for in the past. Matt Rhule was the coach while Anderson was at Temple back in 2015. The issue is that Bridgewater's strengths don't really align with Anderson's. Bridgewater threw the ball 20-plus yards just 7.1 percent of the time last year, which ranked second lowest in the league. Anderson's skill set just doesn't align with Bridgewater's strengths as a passer, though they may try to force the issue after spending $20 million over two years on Anderson. Not having an offseason to build rapport makes me a bit more concerned, especially knowing we've seen Anderson's effort level best described as "inconsistent" on the field. It's tough to say he'll be a better fantasy option than he was in New York, only now his asking price is much lower. Being taken outside the top 50 wide receivers is a discount worth taking in best-ball leagues, but in redraft, it's tough to say he'll be a consistent contributor. He's the third option, at best.In case you didn't know, Jefferson is coming off a ridiculous season with LSU where he tallied 111 receptions for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns over 15 games. He played the big-slot role for them, which is something the Vikings should take into consideration when figuring out how to best deploy him. Unfortunately, Jefferson wound up on the COVID list and is being forced to miss a lot of camp. Still, he's a route-running technician who's playing behind a 30-year-old receiver who's been dealing with back issues. There's an avenue where Jefferson is relied upon as a rookie more than most think, though it would likely require Thielen to be out of the lineup. Under Gary Kubiak/Kevin Stefanski last year, the wide receivers saw just 43.2 percent of the target share (4th-lowest mark in the NFL), making it very difficult for multiple options to be fantasy relevant on a week-to-week basis. Because of that, Jefferson is essentially just a wide receiver handcuff.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Anderson has plenty of talent and has been the victim of erratic quarterback play throughout his career with the Jets. Reuniting with his college coach, Matt Rhule, is a positive development, but it's difficult to see him being start-worthy at any point this season. Between Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, and Ian Thomas, there just aren't going to be enough targets to make Anderson viable, especially given that because he's mostly a deep threat, he's inherently a boom-or-bust play. Add in that Teddy Bridgewater isn't the type of quarterback who will play recklessly and things just don't look like they'll fall into place for Anderson in 2020.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Anderson's struggled the past few seasons in New York, but he's getting a change of scenery with his signing with the Carolina Panthers. Anderson has familiarity with head coach Matt Rhule, which will only help in a truncated offseason. The Panthers are most likely going to be throwing the ball a ton this season and Anderson's going to see plenty of targets heading his way. Anderson's one of my candidates to breakout this season and he's currently being drafted outside the top-50 WRs.Justin Jefferson landed in a beautiful spot for fantasy football, as he steps in alongside Adam Thielen and will assume the Stefon Diggs role. Thielen and Jefferson are the only true players there that should command targets and we know that Thielen has started to deal with some injuries the past couple of years. Jefferson should easily see over 100 targets in year one and may bring even more upside if something were to happen to Adam Thielen.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
While the Panthers have a crowded WR corps, Anderson could thrive in a system that prioritizes "SPEED in space"
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Not sure why the signing is confusing for some. Did you expect everyone to just run underneath and be completely predictable? Awaiting fantasy judgement until we see what Rhule is about.2019 Slot % Diggs - 14.7 Thielen - 29.3 Bisi - 34 Beebe - 52.5 (barely played) Justin Jefferson is going to be a WR2 right out of the gate. His biggest obstacle? Not Adam Thielen, but passing volume. No one had over 100 targets and Cook was 2nd on the team with 63. Injuries played a part in this but the Vikings went from 606 ATT in 2018, fired Defilippo, 466 ATT in 2019. The slot roll was basically a committee in 2019, Jefferson should consolidate that in 2020
