Lineups
The Dolphins had the worst rushing offense in the NFL last season and wasted no time in addressing the issue as they brought in Howard and Matt Breida. I expect both players to be involved and I have them two spots away from each other in my 1/2-point PPR rankings. Howard is more of a plodder and he won't catch the ball very much, but he'll presumably get the bulk of the red zone work. The upside isn't really there, but Howard is a nice insurance piece if you're worried about your early-round running backs.Bruce Arians has just never fully bought in on Ronald Jones. As a holdover from the prior regime, Arians has kept Jones on a tight leash for the past two years. He was expected to become the starting running back for the Bucs' offense, but the team drafted Ke'Shawn Vaugh and signed LeSean McCoy and Leonard Fournette. I still believe in Jones's talent, but with all of the mouths to feed in the backfield, it will be difficult to take any Tampa running back before the double-digit rounds. Jones is still my favorite target of the bunch but it's a hazy situation.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Howard is expected to enter the season as Miami's lead back - while his game has limitations, he's arguably as effective an inside-zone runner as there is in the NFL. There's a chance that he'll be utilized more as a receiver than he was in Philadelphia.
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
He was a target for me before the Fournette signing, and now he's nearly out of my top-40 RBs.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Howard will get the opportunity to be a starting RB again in 2020 in Miami. He's the clear option for goal line carries and this offensive line is drastically improved from 2019. Howard should be a solid RB2 option all season long in this offense. The Bucs have shown us all offseason that they're not fully confident that Jones can be THE guy. They're in win now mode with Tom Brady behind center, which means that they don't want any potential weak spots on their roster. They did the smart thing from a team building perspective and brought in Leonard Fournette just mere days away from the start of the 2020 NFL season. This effectively crushes Jones' upside this season and he is now moved down to RB4 territory. While I do think Jones will hold onto the job for the first few weeks of the season, due to Fournette not even knowing the scheme or what number he's wearing yet, he'll lose it eventually. He'll be part of a committee and he'll have some bench stash appeal in fantasy, but all of the hope for Jones breaking out this season is essentially gone now.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
After being drafted out of Indiana in the 5th round a few years ago, Jordan Howard has regularly surpassed expectations. He was sensational for the Bears in his debut season before dropping away along with the team's attack as a whole. A move to Philly proved he still had it as he held off Miles Sanders with superior play until injury crueled his season. Now in Miami's RB-wasteland and he's got a chance to do it all again. The message is clear, under-estimate Howard at your peril. With around 400 RB touches to go around, I expect Howard to lead the backfield with Breida taking the change-of-pace/receiving role. Take Howard in the late 8th round if you need a safe option but realize the upside is limited this time.Ronald Jones had a disappointing sophomore season, splitting carries with reliable plodder Peyton Barber and struggling with pass-protection. Nevertheless, there were positive signs for the 22-year-old as he started to establish himself with a couple of 100+ yard performances to end the season. Sadly, the Buccs have muddied the waters by drafting Ke'Shawn Vaughn and bringing in LeSean McCoy and more recently, Leonard Fournette. That makes RoJo very hard to trust this season. This is a backfield worth avoiding until the very late rounds.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Howard is perpetually undervalued in fantasy football, in part because of his lack of success as a receiver. But over his four-year career, he's totaled 3,895 yards rushing, 30 touchdowns, and a 4.3 YPC average. Those numbers are more than adequate for fantasy purposes, especially considering Howard should get the bulk of the work for the Dolphins. While Matt Breida should siphon off some carries, Howard will likely be the primary ball carrier and the goal-line option, making him a Flex option in standard leagues.Jones' value was ascending right up until the Bucs signed Leonard Fournette, after which it dropped significantly. Fournette's contract suggests he's going to see (or at least he signed expecting to see) significant playing time, which likely moves him into a rough timeshare with Jones. Both Fournette and Jones can be drafted as Flexes, but Jones is more likely to contribute earlier in the season while Fournette gets comfortable with the offense. Draft Jones if you need someone immediately, but Fournette if you're taking a longer-term view.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It seems like years since Howard has been a force to reckon with in fantasy football, but prior to the 2019 season that was ended with injuries, he'd posted 935 or more rushing yards in each of the previous three seasons. The issue with projecting that moving forward is due to his offensive line play. The Dolphins have what may be the worst line in football, while Howard has only run behind top-10 offensive lines while in Chicago and Philadelphia. Still, if you need a running back who's likely locked into 12-plus touches a week, Howard can fill a role on your fantasy team.We heard the Bucs say all offseason that Jones was their guy. We didn't even hear about them meeting with any of the free agent running backs. Then we heard the name Keshawn Vaughn in the third round, creating a problem for Jones. When teams select a running back on Day 2, it's typically to play them right out of the gate, even if it's not a clear-cut loss of the job for Jones. No matter which way you slice it, he has some new and improved competition. Another update: The Bucs signed Leonard Fournette after he was cut by the Jaguars, adding uncertainty to Jones' draft stock. He may get the first snap, but this reeks of a timeshare, similar to the one that Jones and Peyton Barber had last year.

Great producer when given the ball throughout his career. Likely lead guy in the committee with Breida, but offers limited upside due to lack of receiving work.Jones was a great RB prospect coming out. Was efficient last year and was very good as a receiver. 6/7 other RBs to have over 7.5 YPT on 35 targets at either 21or 22 went on to have a top 5 RB finish at some point in their career. Lots of upside here.

After one season with the Eagles, Howard now finds himself in Miami in what could be a resurgent offense under Tua Tagovailoa. He will split carries with Matt Breida but I expect Howard to get the majority of the goal-line work. He's a much better option in non-PPR.Jones began to show flashes of potential as the season progress last year and now in a revamped Bucs offense, he has legitimate upside. While there is upside, there are also plenty of risks involved in this pick. The Bucs just spent a 3rd-round pick on Ke'Shawn Vaughn as well as signing veteran LeSean McCoy. I think it's going to come down to Jones versus Vaughn and whoever wins should have legitimate fantasy value.

Howard should be the lead back in a crowded RBBC in Miami this year, which would give him flex value with upside if they can improve the offensive line.

Expect Howard to be the top choice for the Dolphins' goal line work this season.Jones tallied a strong 10.0 yards per catch on his 31 receptions. Pro Football Focus graded him just 73rd among all RBs in receiving. He fared better by Football Outsiders metrics, though, ranking 17th in DVOA and 20th in DYAR among 50 qualifying backs. PFF liked his rushing better, grading Jones 43rd at the position. FO had him 24th among 45 qualifiers in rushing DVOA, though at a rate below average-level performance. Fantasy wise, Jones ranked 35th in PPR points per game. @SchaufDS

Strong landing spot in MIA, especially with the line beefed up in the draft. Breida was a nice "lightning" complement added to Howard's "thunder," but he's in line for 250+ touches in an offense that could sneaky light it up if Chan Gailey still has it (and if Tua is the real deal).Emerged from the NFL Draft less scathed than anticipated. He might lose the job to Rookie Vaughn, but as of now Jones also could remain a three-down guy in one of the NFL's highest powered offenses.

I learned my lesson last year! Howard will be more involved than I like! Still likely to receive 150ish carries with a rookie drafted, whether we like it or not. Was pacing for 190 in Philly last year. The good news is he's an absolute dunce when it comes to pass catching and Miami targeted the RB a sneaky amount(99). It was just spread out through Drake, who left, and the Walton and LA(i)RDS of the world 150 attempts at a 4ypc clip with a handful of TDs would put him at 90 fantasy points.
