Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It was a solid rookie year for Michel, who finished as the RB28 despite missing three full games. The issue with expecting a massive jump in production is his lack of usage in the passing game (just seven receptions in 13 games), and the third-round draft pick of Damien Harris, as he's a threat to steal some early-down work. Still, Michel should provide RB2 value as long as he's healthyYou have to give Kittle a ton of credit for what he did in 2018. He played with a combination of Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Nick Mullens yet managed to set the yardage record for a tight end. Getting Garoppolo back for the full season should help, but he may lose a few targets considering Dante Pettis is now in a starting role, while the 49ers drafted Deebo Samuel in the second-round and Jalen Hurd in the third-round. He's still a force to be reckoned with and one of the three tight ends worth a pick in the first three rounds
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Admittedly, there's some fear of his balky knee, and a little usage uncertainty with Belichick's history of pulling the backfield strings, but his preseason's been strong and the backfield is lucrative (NE top 6 in RB half-PPR FAN PTS each of past 4 seasons)Led all TEs in rec. yards (1377) and his 10.2 yards gained average after the catch was more than a yard higher than any other receiver in the league, and 3 yards higher than his expected yards after the catch avg. (7.0)
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Michel was great last year, but he's had some health questions and New England has approximately one thousand running backs. He should be higher, but I can't do it.Kittle is the most explosive tight end in the league, but will Jimmy G help or hurt him? We don't know yet, so he's 3rd for me.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Michel dealt with a preseason knee injury that bothered him some during the season, but he came on during the fantasy (and real-life) playoffs, showing his upside. When the Patriots spent a third-round pick on Damien Harris, fantasy owners got worried, but Harris reportedly has not gotten many reps this summer. The backfield in New England is still crowded with James White and Rex Burkhead, but with no Rob Gronkowksi, the Patriots are likely to lean on the run a bit more. That makes Michel an RB2, though one that is better in standard formats. The absence of Jimmy Garoppolo had no impact on Kittle, who racked up an incredible 1,377 yards last season. His record-setting total was largely due to a ridiculous amount of yards after the catch, the most in the NFL. Some regression could be expected, but given the enormous upgrade in quarterback with Garoppolo healthy, perhaps it shouldn't be as much as you think. Kittle may still be behind Travis Kelce as the top tight end in fantasy, but the gap is narrow.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
It's tough to know if he can repeat a 88/1377/5 line, but it's important to note he only scored FIVE TDs. Even if his yardage and catches drop, he has the TD upside to make up for it.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Check out my article on BRotofantasy.com regarding Michel's inflated ADP. He was very much a game script RB with no passing game involvement last season and there is nothing that says that will not remain the same this season. He also has degenerative knee issues and has never played even half the offensive snaps in a game.
Sean Koerner
The Action Network
chronic knee issues mean he could miss games. Damien Harris puts pressure on him. not ideal in any sort of PPR. he's more valuable in Best Ball as he will consolidate his value into several games he goes off
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Sony has plummeted down draft boards with the drafting of Damien Harris and multiple reports about concerns revolving Michel's knee. These are both scary for fantasy owners, but the price has now dropped low enough that you can afford to take a risk on someone with legitimate top 10 running back upside in this great Patriots' offense. Not only did Kittle receive for more yards than any tight end in football history last year, but he did it with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard as his quarterbacks. Enter Jimmy Garoppolo and we might see an even better season. Granted, the 49ers have some weapons in the passing game, but among them, Kittle is still the number one and you likely can't say that about Ertz in Philly with Alshon roaming around.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Honestly, I can't justify drafting Sony this season. Not only did the Patriots draft another RB early this season, but his knee is a concern. He's suffered a torn ACL, a fractured shoulder blade, multiple ankle sprains, a fractured forearm and three separate knee strains. Sony, unsurprisingly, has the second highest chance of injury this season according to sports injury predictor. You can also add volume reduction to his risk. We know that White is going to get most of the passing down work, and that Harris is going to take some of the early down work away from him. This backfield is very similar to that of Washington. Assuming everyone stays healthy, Sony isn't going to pay off his ADP. He would need a Damien Harris injury to be anything more than a TD upside FLEX play. Yet he's being drafted as a mid range RB 2. Save yourself the headache and just stay away from Sony this season.George Kittle is going to be the centerpiece of the 49ers passing offense. So while we can't expect him to break the single season receiving record again, he should still have a great season. We still don't have a large enough sample to know exactly how well Kittle will perform with Garoppolo...but it's safe to assume he's not a downgrade from what they had last season. Kittle is now entering his third season as a pro, at a position that's notoriously difficult for young players. He's also missed just one game in his short two year career, although it's worth noting that he still has suffered a few injuries over the past few years. I view Kittle as a safe pick in the third round if you want to target a TE early. Unfortunately, he routinely gets taken in the second...an ADP which I'm less in love with.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Michel had a breakout postseason and that could carry over to a strong 2019 season. He does have some knee issues, but he should still be a solid RB3 with RB2 upside in 2019.Kittle had 88 receptions for 1,377 yards and 5 touchdowns on an offense that started 3 quarterbacks last year. There is an argument to be made that he is the best receiving tight end in football, but I would still rank him below Kelce due to the QB situation in San Francisco.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
We saw a complete emergence from George Kittle in 2018 that has lead to unimaginable hype for the young TE. With that being said, there's reason to be cautious with Kittle moving forward. We've seen a very small sample size with Kittle and Garoppolo and the 49ers added a bunch of other weapons to that offense this offseason. Kittle will still be heavily involved, but we may not see 1,300 receiving yards from him again in 2019...Temper your expectations, but still feel confident drafting Kittle in the 4th-5th rounds of your redraft leagues.
