Lineups
It feels like I'm the only one who's still in on Sony Michel for this season. Yes, he's injured, and yes, the Patriots offense is going to get worse without Tom Brady. However, Bill Belichick made Michel a first-round pick and has given him the full workload for the majority of his time on the field. If Michel can stay healthy, he should benefit from playing next to a mobile QB in Cam Newton, and he could easily surpass 250 touches.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Michel has justifiably fallen out of favor for fantasy owners after yet another sub-par year, and there's little excitement about him this year. He has averaged nearly 16 carries per game in his career, however, and may be asked to carry more of a load now that Tom Brady is no longer under center. But his upside is limited by his complete lack of involvement in the passing game, as he has just 31 targets and 19 receptions over his 29 career games. In standard scoring leagues, there's a chance he may be slightly undervalued given that Damien Harris was placed on IR and Lamar Miller was released, but it would be hard to rely on him as anything more than a bench player in or half- or full-PPR leagues. That's especially true given his foot surgery in May which could impact him early in the season.Coleman had several excellent games, but was all but irrelevant late in the year when Raheem Mostert took over as the primary back. Mostert will almost certainly lead the way in 2020, but given the turnover in 2019, Coleman could get his shot again at some point. If he does receive the lion's share of the carries in San Francisco, it's a perfect situation, as the 49ers ran the ball 51% of the time last year, second most in the league. Heading into 2020 drafts, however, Coleman is nothing more than a high-end handcuff for your bench.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels prefers a running scheme heavy on gap blocking, and Michel is a great fit for that approach. It's his lack of involvement in the passing game that will continue to limit his fantasy upside, especially in PPR leagues.San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has an affinity for Coleman, a solid runner and receiving threat Shanahan had when he was Atlanta's offensive coordinator. He'll likely begin 2020 as the 49ers' No. 2 back behind Raheem Mostert.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
After a somewhat disappointing rookie campaign where he failed to finish as a top-24 running back despite racking up 209 carries in the high-scoring Patriots offense, Michel had an even worse sophomore campaign, averaging just 3.7 yards per carry and scoring just seven touchdowns on 259 touches. The Patriots spent a first-round pick on him, so he'll be given every opportunity to succeed, but they won't allow him to be inefficient much longer with Damien Harris waiting in the wings. Michel simply hasn't been the player we watched at Georgia. It's hard to see losing Tom Brady actually help him become more efficient. Not only that, but he now has to worry about Cam Newton stealing goal-line touches. Now that Matt Breida is out of town, you'd think there's more opportunity to be had for Coleman in this backfield, but the return of Jerick McKinnon could affect that. After seeing 16-plus carries in three of his first four games with the 49ers, Coleman never got more than 12 for the remainder of the season. He's best suited for a timeshare role and somewhat of a handcuff to Raheem Mostert. If Mostert were to miss time, Coleman would likely be an every-week RB2.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
The Damien Harris hype is building as Sony Michel battles to be ready for Week 1. He's becoming more of a low-upside gamble by the day but will provide some upside if you get him late enough in drafts.Tevin Coleman will continue the career-backup role he had last season outside two outlier 105 yard games. Raheem Mostert is so clearly the better back and while Kyle Shanahan will occasionally give the backfield over to Coleman when he has the "hot hand", Coleman really needs an injury to Mostert before you can comfortably start him in fantasy. I'll be avoiding this mess this year whenever I can help it.

The cheaper of the two top backs in San Francisco, an ideal flex spot filler
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
The "starter" for SF. Had a couple productive games last year before getting hurt and Mostert running hot. Offers 3 down ability and the Shanahan offense is a gold mine for RBs.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Few players are more difficult to gauge than Sony Michel. He can score three TD's one week and then have a total of 26 yards the next. In PPR formats he simply doesn't see the ball enough to considered a starter.Coleman is one part of one of the most confusing backfields in the NFL. Coleman continues to be labeled as the starter but it's Raheem Mostert who has been the more productive pf the two. Coleman has a chance to finish as a solid flex option but trusting anyone in RB in San Francisco is a risk.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
No thanks. No thanks. No thanks. There's no hidden value here. This is a guy who averaged 3.7 yards per carry on a decent offense last year and has never surpassed 7 TDs in a season. With the best goal-line running QB in NFL history leading the way now, Michel is best left off of your squad.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
With Cam Newton behind center, this offense is going to be much more potent than it would have been with Jarrett Stidham. This benefits Michel with more scoring opportunities and trips into the red zone. However, the downside is that Newton has the size and power to take away some of those goal line touches. Michel's nothing more than a RB3 this season, in my opinion.Despite playing only 14 games last year, Coleman still finished as the RB36. He hasn't been able to recapture the magic he had in Atlanta several years ago, but he's still a fine option for your fantasy football roster. With that being said, Coleman is an intriguing hold right now in every format due to the recent news regarding Raheem Mostert. If Mostert is traded, as he has requested, Coleman becomes the de factor RB1 in Kyle Shanahan's offense. Coleman would most likely be considered a top-24 option at that point.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Michel recovering from foot surgery, per sources. The surgery was viewed as more maintenance-based to relieve discomfort. How Michel's rehab progresses will determine if he opens training camp on PUP. @MikeReiss - I don't think he starts the season on PUP. I'm like being able to get him in the 8th-9th round.Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert each carried the ball 137 times in 2019, Mostert had 228 more yards rushing. @willson8tor Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert each totaled 180 receiving yards in 2019, Mostert had 33.3% fewer receptions (RM 14/22, TC 21/30). @willson8tor

*Update - Latest foot surgery extra concerning* Perhaps the Pats go run-obsessed in the Post Brady era? Nothing to really dig in and love here in such a messy RBBC, and wouldn't be surprised if Damien Harris pushes for the big back this year much harder.Breida Removed = steadier volume within the best blocking scheme in the NFL. Huge TD upside if the GL guy like he opened last year.
