Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Sterling Shepard tied for 17th most in the NFL for targets per game in 2019 with 8.3. The Athletic's Dan Duggan said Giants WR Sterling Shepard has dominated opposing cornerbacks in training camp, establishing himself as the clear No. 1 wideout.Jackson should be your WR4 target in every league over the next 10 days. (@GrahamBarfield) Reagor/Jeffery both limited and D-Jax gets two amazing draws out of the blocks in Week 1 (vs. WAS) and Week 3 (vs. CIN). Both of those secondaries were bottom-10 in gains of 15+ pass yards last year.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Signed prior to last season to a four-year, 41 million extension, Shepard picked up a few of the targets that had gone to Odell Beckham in prior seasons, averaging more than eight targets per game for the first time in his career. The expectation is that he will continue to work primarily out of the slot in 2020 despite the slot also being the preferred position of Golden Tate.Making his presence felt in his first game as an Eagle since a January 2014 playoff loss, Jackson caught eight passes for 154 yards and two scores in the 2019 season opener. It was downhill from there, as Jackson didn't draw a target before exiting with a groin injury the following week. He returned to catch a five-yard pass in Week 9 before missing the remainder of the season. With Jalen Raegor and Alshon Jeffery banged up, Jackson could be startable early this season.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Sterling Shepard went into 2019 as the clear cut Giants WR1 but he failed to perform, missing half the season with injury and only performing against mediocre opposition. Now with Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram, Golden Tate and Darius Slayton to compete with, it's hard to see Shepard providing weekly security in an offense expected to run more often this year under Joe Judge. He's a low upside mid-round pick.DeSean Jackson is getting a surprising amount of hype for a 33-year-old coming off a major injury which derailed the majority of his 2019 season. He does have massive upside though, especially on a weekly basis as evidenced by his Week 1 explosion for 154 yards and 2 TDs last season. With a heap of new weapons in town though, it's hard to see much chance DJax replicates anything close to his original Eagles success. The Alshon Jeffery injury certainly helps but Jackson is still far from a certainty. Take him in Best Ball but use caution in other leagues as there's a good chance he'll have as many bust weeks as boom weeks.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
In a season where he was dealing with injuries and a rookie quarterback, Shepard still posted WR2 or better numbers in 40 percent of his games, which ranked 33rd among wide receivers. Now, to be fair, the offense has changed, but it doesn't appear the new regime is very fond of Evan Engram, as evidenced by putting him on the trade block during the NFL Draft. Golden Tate is aging, and while Darius Slayton did flash at times, it was a relatively small sample size. It shouldn't shock anyone to see Shepard get 100-plus targets in 2020 and finish as a WR3, though you do have to wonder what his upside actually is with so many mouths to feed.We saw exactly one game with Jackson healthy in the Doug Pederson offense. It led to nine targets, eight receptions, 154 yards, and two touchdowns. To be fair, it was against Washington, but still impressive. It's tough to take too much away from just one game, though. He is now 34 years old, so it's only a matter of time before his game declines, though we haven't seen it yet. He's averaged at least 10.0 yards per target in six of his last seven seasons. With Marquise Goodwin opting out for the season, they'll need Jackson in the field-stretching role. He's a poor man's version of Will Fuller at this stage of his career but can still fit in your lineup from time to time. At his current WR58 draft position, he's a steal.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
When healthy, Shepard has been a solid WR3 but the problem is, he's rarely healthy. Now with the emergence of Darius Slayton and the presence of veteran Golden Tate, I don't like Shepard's chances of living up to his ADP.When healthy, DeSean Jackson is a phenomenal deep threat WR with decent fantasy value but the guy is never healthy. In his 12-year career, Jackson has played 16 games just two times. Now the Eagles have added WRs both through the draft and free agency. You can't trust Jackson to stay healthy anymore and that's a deal-breaker.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
When Shepard's on the field, he's a target vacuum. However, he's rarely been on the field the past couple seasons and he is playing in one of the deepest receiving corps in the entire league. Darius Slayton, Golden Tate, Evan Engram, and Saquon Barkley are all going to command targets in this offense, which limits each player's ceiling. If one of the other options misses time, Shepard can be extremely fantasy relevant, but it's impossible to project that going into the season. Shepard's a risky pick this year. With Alshon Jeffery projected to start the season on the PUP list, Jackson is a screaming steal at his current ADP. We've seen what Jackson can do when he's fully healthy in this offense and right now, Jackson is the smartest selection you can make in the late rounds of your draft. He can be plugged in immediately as a WR2/WR3 into your lineup and he'll still have value as long as he stays healthy.
