Fantasy Football Advice
I'm higher on Drake than most experts are. The way I see it, last season was his floor. The Dolphins finished 26th in points per game, and dead last in plays per game. Despite that, Drake was able to scrap together just over 1,000 total yards and 9 total TD's. The guy finished as the RB 17 in half PPR scoring, while he was in a time share on one of the worst teams in the league. How he was able to finish as the RB 17, on 120 carries, in that offense is impressive. Ballage is of no concern, after evading just two tackles on 45 touches. Drake is absolutely the lead back this season, and he's finally going to be used more, now Adam "Drake hater" Gase is finally gone. Given what he was able to do last season, and given the likely improvement for this offense, Drake is being undervalued at his current ADP.It's been reported that one of Coleman/McKinnon/Breida will be inactive each week during the regular season. Breida proved to be a valuable asset last season, and assuming McKinnon is fully recovered from his torn ACL (he should be, but will get stronger as the season progresses), then it's entirely possible that Coleman is a healthy scratch some weeks this year. That's going to be frustrating for fantasy, but you can also look at it a different way. Yes, you might be upset 90 minutes before his start time (often the late start), but if they're only using two backs...then it's no longer a committee. If the only active backs heading into a week are Coleman and McKinnon...then Coleman is going to be a RB 2. That's a value for where you're getting him in drafts. I do expect Coleman to be active the most out of this group...although Breida is a great RB, and there will be plenty of weeks where the both of them are active. Ultimately, this is a situation where you're betting on the 49ers offense in the mid to late portion of your draft. And I'm more than ok with that. They got very unlucky last season, and should be around 8-8 to 9-7 this year. I'm not targeting Coleman, but I'm also not avoiding him.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Drake has some of the best big-play ability in the league and the departure of RB Frank Gore should help his fantasy value. The problem is this team has one of the worst quarterback situations in the league, which is going to make Drake's value very dicey is some games. The 49ers running back situation is fluid, but I think Coleman becomes the lead back in Kyle Shanahan's offense, but only a RB3 in fantasy football as the 49ers utilize one of the deeper RBBC situations in the NFL.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
Forever locked in fantasy football hell with Adam Gase as the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins, Drake has now been set free! Under the new coaching staff, Drake stands to see a boost in overall touches this season and he has the talent to elevate himself into the Top-15 RB conversation. My only concern is the overall team talent and how many times Drake will be in scoring opportunities in 2019.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
He's the most talented running back on the Dolphins roster, though that didn't seem to mean all that much under Adam Gase. With Gase out of town, can Drake get the touches he deserves under new head coach Brian Flores? Most don't realize that despite not topping 17 touches in a game and only hitting more than 10 touches seven times in 2018 that Drake finished as the No. 17 running back. He doesn't offer top-five upside, but he might be a sturdy RB2 in 2019.If anyone outside of Kyle Shanahan tells you what to expect out of the 49ers backfield, they're lying to you. Don't forget with even less talent on the roster last year, you couldn't figure out if it would be Matt Brieda, Alfred Morris, or Raheem Mostert. We now add Coleman, who had his best years under Shanahan, and Jerick McKinnon, who will be returning from a torn ACL. It's likely to be a timeshare, though there will be valuable weeks among them, and Coleman figures to lead the charge.
