FantasyPros
The 49ers running back situation is fluid, but I think Coleman becomes the lead back in Kyle Shanahan's offense. He would be a RB3 with some upside in a great offense for running backs.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The 49ers will probably use all of their backs, but I still love Coleman's upside in this system. I'll be getting some shares and hoping he makes the most of his touches
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
This 49ers offense is so difficult to figure out. We know they will succeed in running the ball since Shanahan is pulling the strings, but who the primary back will be, if there is one at all, is anyone's guess. Coleman does come with substantial upside and is currently the starter but there is much more risk than anyone else in the top 30 RBs.Remember in 2017 when Alvin Kamara finished #3 and Mark Ingram finished #6 among all half-PPR fantasy running backs? Well, Ingram's average draft position was 46th overall last year even despite a 4-game suspension. He and Kamara proceeded to score 33.0 fantasy points per game combined last year after 32.7 in 2017. The point in saying all this is that Murray is replacing Ingram in one of the most useful roles in fantasy football. He may be a better version, yet is being drafted 45 spots after Ingram was last year, even despite Ingram having a four-game suspension. That doesn't seem smart.

Fantasy Football Advice
It's been reported that one of Coleman/McKinnon/Breida will be inactive each week during the regular season. Breida proved to be a valuable asset last season, and assuming McKinnon is fully recovered from his torn ACL (he should be, but will get stronger as the season progresses), then it's entirely possible that Coleman is a healthy scratch some weeks this year. That's going to be frustrating for fantasy, but you can also look at it a different way. Yes, you might be upset 90 minutes before his start time (often the late start), but if they're only using two backs...then it's no longer a committee. If the only active backs heading into a week are Coleman and McKinnon...then Coleman is going to be a RB 2. That's a value for where you're getting him in drafts. I do expect Coleman to be active the most out of this group...although Breida is a great RB, and there will be plenty of weeks where the both of them are active. Ultimately, this is a situation where you're betting on the 49ers offense in the mid portion of your draft. And I'm more than ok with that. They got very unlucky last season, and should be around 8-8 to 9-7 this year. I'm very excited to see the offense this year, as I think they're going to surprise people,I love Murray this season. Not only does he come with a decent floor being in the Saints offense, but he has just as much upside as a backup RB can have. They signed him to be the Ingram replacement, and that's a role he can excel at. Murray is going to see 9-11 carries per game, and about 2-3 targets per game. He's also going to be used from time to time in the red zone, and will be used more when they pull away from teams. That might not sound enticing, but in the Saints offense he can return low end RB 2 to high end RB 3 numbers with that sort of volume. The reason I want him is the upside if Kamara were to get hurt. Murray would instantly become a RB 1. So he's a solid FLEX option with massive upside. I'll take that upside for where he's going in drafts.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
If anyone outside of Kyle Shanahan tells you what to expect out of the 49ers backfield, they're lying to you. Don't forget with even less talent on the roster last year, you couldn't figure out if it would be Matt Brieda, Alfred Morris, or Raheem Mostert. We now add Coleman, who had his best years under Shanahan, and Jerick McKinnon, who will be returning from a torn ACL. It's likely to be a timeshare, though there will be valuable weeks among them, and Coleman figures to lead the chargeIf Murray lands in the old Mark Ingram role, everyone is too low on him, as he'll offer RB2 numbers more often than not. It's hard to imagine that someone just walks in and fills Ingram's shoes, but the Saints didn't waste any time locking Murray up in free agency, so they clearly viewed him as someone who could do it. You might want to expect a slight bump in touches for Alvin Kamara, while Murray gets slightly less than Ingram did. He's going to be a bit touchdown-dependent, but he's able to fill the RB3 slot on your fantasy team
