Lineups
The Dolphins' backfield was far from a fantasy goldmine last season - it was the lowest scoring group of running backs on the year. Jordan Howard and Matt Breida will help their real-life offense, but in fantasy, it's difficult to project either of them having a massive role. Breida is one of the fastest players in the NFL and he is a capable pass-catcher, so he has the higher upside than Howard if he gets more work than most expect.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has an affinity for Coleman, a solid runner and receiving threat Shanahan had when he was Atlanta's offensive coordinator. He'll likely begin 2020 as the 49ers' No. 2 back behind Raheem Mostert.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Still somehow only 25, the injury-prone Matt Breida moves to the Dolphins without an injury-free season under his belt. Honestly, I'm not even sure he's had an injury-free game. He will likely fall into a change-of-pace/receiving role in a Brian Flores offense that doesn't use its RBs enough. Hopefully that changes with two NFL-calibre runners now on the the books but I wouldn't have high hopes for Breida this year. He's likely to spend most of the year on your bench and if you need to use him, you're in big trouble (or Jordan Howard is injured).Tevin Coleman will continue the career-backup role he had last season outside two outlier 105 yard games. Raheem Mostert is so clearly the better back and while Kyle Shanahan will occasionally give the backfield over to Coleman when he has the "hot hand", Coleman really needs an injury to Mostert before you can comfortably start him in fantasy. I'll be avoiding this mess this year whenever I can help it.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There are a lot of fantasy owners expecting Jordan Howard to be the lead back in Miami, though if I'm being honest, Breida may be the better option, and he's much cheaper. While health has been an issue for Breida, he's performed when given opportunity and will get most of the passing-down work in 2020. Staying on the field has been and will continue to be an obstacle. Now that Matt Breida is out of town, you'd think there's more opportunity to be had for Coleman in this backfield, but the return of Jerick McKinnon could affect that. After seeing 16-plus carries in three of his first four games with the 49ers, Coleman never got more than 12 for the remainder of the season. He's best suited for a timeshare role and somewhat of a handcuff to Raheem Mostert. If Mostert were to miss time, Coleman would likely be an every-week RB2.
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
An under the radar player that Miami seeked out. Keep an eye on him as someone you may kick yourself for burying completelyThe cheaper of the two top backs in San Francisco, an ideal flex spot filler
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Great athlete and efficient player ever since stepping on the field in the NFL. Offers a potential pass-catching role that Howard doesn't posses on the Dolphins. Should be opportunity in the committee to be fantasy relevant and be efficient with his touches. The "starter" for SF. Had a couple productive games last year before getting hurt and Mostert running hot. Offers 3 down ability and the Shanahan offense is a gold mine for RBs.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Breida finds himself in Miami after being apart of a draft-day trade and should now be in a position to lead the Dolphins backfield. Problem is, the Dolphins backfield has been one of the least fantasy productive backfields in the league over the last few years. That being said, Tua Tagovailoa could change everything in Miami. Breida is an interesting name to keep an eye on late in drafts.Coleman is one part of one of the most confusing backfields in the NFL. Coleman continues to be labeled as the starter but it's Raheem Mostert who has been the more productive pf the two. Coleman has a chance to finish as a solid flex option but trusting anyone in RB in San Francisco is a risk.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Breida's coming over to Miami from San Francisco and will be the compliment to Jordan Howard in this backfield. Breida's electric with the ball in his hands and he's shown the capability of being valuable for fantasy football in the past, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy. The Dolphins will aim to keep Breida's carry count light, which should help his longevity and durability this season. If that's the case, he should be borderline relevant and could be a solid bench option to plug in on bye weeks. He's a solid RB4 this season.Despite playing only 14 games last year, Coleman still finished as the RB36. He hasn't been able to recapture the magic he had in Atlanta several years ago, but he's still a fine option for your fantasy football roster. With that being said, Coleman is an intriguing hold right now in every format due to the recent news regarding Raheem Mostert. If Mostert is traded, as he has requested, Coleman becomes the de factor RB1 in Kyle Shanahan's offense. Coleman would most likely be considered a top-24 option at that point.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Breida has flashed big-play ability throughout his career thanks to his 4.44 speed (92% according to playerprofiler.com) and 99% burst (playerprofiler.com). His career 5.0 ypc and 8.4 ypr reflect that ability. Health and fumbling issues (four fumbles on 384 career carries) are the only things that could prevent him from claiming the top spot on Miami's depth chart. @MrHill9169Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert each carried the ball 137 times in 2019, Mostert had 228 more yards rushing. @willson8tor Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert each totaled 180 receiving yards in 2019, Mostert had 33.3% fewer receptions (RM 14/22, TC 21/30). @willson8tor
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Coleman had several excellent games, but was all but irrelevant late in the year when Raheem Mostert took over as the primary back. Mostert will almost certainly lead the way in 2020, but given the turnover in 2019, Coleman could get his shot again at some point. If he does receive the lion's share of the carries in San Francisco, it's a perfect situation, as the 49ers ran the ball 51% of the time last year, second most in the league. Heading into 2020 drafts, however, Coleman is nothing more than a high-end handcuff for your bench.
