FantasyPros
Williams should benefit from RB Melvin Gordon holding out, he is a big target that will be more featured in the red zone without Gordon there to hammer the ball across the goal line. The 49ers running back situation is fluid, but I think Coleman becomes the lead back in Kyle Shanahan's offense. He would be a RB3 with some upside in a great offense for running backs.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There have been just 16 wide receivers who have been able to finish as a top-20 fantasy receiver with less than 100 targets over the last 10 years. Williams just did it with 66 targets, while Tyler Lockett did it with 71 targets in 2018. No other wide receivers can say they did it with less than 79 targets. The exit of Tyrell Williams in free agency means a lot more targets and consistency is in store for Mike Williams in 2019. It's rare to find a wide receiver being drafted outside the top-25 wide receivers with top-10 upside, but Williams has itIf anyone outside of Kyle Shanahan tells you what to expect out of the 49ers' backfield, they're lying to you. Don't forget with even less talent on the roster last year, you couldn't figure out if it would be Matt Brieda, Alfred Morris, or Raheem Mostert. We now add Coleman, who had his best years under Shanahan, and Jerick McKinnon, who will be returning from a torn ACL. It's likely to be a timeshare, though there will be valuable weeks among them, and Coleman figures to lead the charge
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The 49ers will probably use all of their backs, but I still love Coleman's upside in this system. I'll be getting some shares and hoping he makes the most of his touches.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
This is what upside looks like. After scoring 11 touchdowns last year and making significant progress as the season went on, Williams is in a great situation this year. Tyrell Williams is gone (though Hunter Henry returns) so even if he sees a downturn in his touchdown rate, he should make up for it with more targets. Draft him as a borderline WR2 but there's a lot more upside than that.Coleman was . . . fine after taking over for Devonta Freeman last year, but he left something to be desired. The 49ers signed him to a two-year, $8.5 million contract, hardly money that signifies he'll be a bell-cow back. With Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida still in the backfield, Coleman is going to need to share the work. But Kyle Shanahan reportedly is fond of Coleman from their days together in Atlanta, so expect him to lead the way. With the crowded backfield, however, it's hard to see him as much more than a high-end RB3.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
I am slowly warming up to Mike Williams a bit more but still do not love his ADP. I do think he is safe enough at his ADP though where he will still be productive even if he doesn't break out this season. His 11 TDs are going to be hard to repeat and 43/664 line obviously leaves a lot to be desired. Needs to take a step up.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Williams was insanely efficient despite being the 4th target. With Tyrell Williams gone and the threat of Melvin Gordon holding out, Williams could surge forward, perhaps all the way into WR1 territory. There is some risk here, but the upside is spectacular. This 49ers offense is so difficult to figure out. We know they will succeed in running the ball since Shanahan is pulling the strings, but who the primary back will be, if there is one at all, is anyone's guess. Coleman does come with substantial upside and is currently the starter but there is much more risk than anyone else in the top 30 RBs.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
I think William's ADP is fair, since he does come with a ton of upside if injuries were to occur, but he needs injuries to pay off his ADP. He's currently the 4th option on the offense behind Keenan Allen, Melvin Gordon and Hunter Henry. That really caps the upside of a low volume, TD dependent receiver. Last season he scored 10 TD's on just 43 receptions...a stat line that is going to regress this season. Again, Williams does have upside if guys go down, but I can't justify drafting a player this early when they need injuries to pay off. It's been reported that one of Coleman/McKinnon/Breida will be inactive each week during the regular season. Breida proved to be a valuable asset last season, and assuming McKinnon is fully recovered from his torn ACL (he should be, but will get stronger as the season progresses), then it's entirely possible that Coleman is a healthy scratch some weeks this year. That's going to be frustrating for fantasy, but you can also look at it a different way. Yes, you might be upset 90 minutes before his start time (often the late start), but if they're only using two backs...then it's no longer a committee. If the only active backs heading into a week are Coleman and McKinnon...then Coleman is going to be a RB 2. That's a value for where you're getting him in drafts. I do expect Coleman to be active the most out of this group...although Breida is a great RB, and there will be plenty of weeks where the both of them are active. Ultimately, this is a situation where you're betting on the 49ers offense in the mid portion of your draft. And I'm more than ok with that. They got very unlucky last season, and should be around 8-8 to 9-7 this year. I'm very excited to see the offense this year, as I think they're going to surprise people,
