White is primed to be one of the targets in the New England passing game with the season-ending injury to WR Julian Edelman. White is a RB3 in standard leagues and has RB2 upside in PPR leagues.

FantasyPros
The Seahawks added Lacy and they do have Prosise sniffing around for touches too, but they appear committed to still get the ball in Rawls' hands too. With that being said, his ceiling is limited and he shouldn't be start-worthy many weeks because of the abysmal Seahawks' offensive line. While the Pats have what seems like a dozen weapons this year, we know Brady loves throwing to his running backs. Even if Dion Lewis stays healthy, this job belongs to James White, who has been among the most efficient pass-catching running backs. He won't be worthy of a start every week, but is a nice bye week fill-in.

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls ankle injury will hold him out of week 2 preseason action on Friday. It's being called a minor injury and Eddie Lacy is now expected to be the starting tailback for the second preseason game. When it was first announced that Rawls would get the start I thought nothing of it, teams usually rest their banged-up players week 2 anyway. Week 3 is what we really care about, but if they're resting Rawls this week that becomes somewhat questionable. We should probably consider this a full blown committee at this point, in which case you can read our "Difference Makers" article to see who I think is worthy of drafting in this backfield. https://twitter.com/pyro_hartbeat/status/898253303213039616I think we can assume that White owns the 3rd down/pass catching role in this offense after what we saw in the Super Bowl, but who really knows. He'll be competing for touches with three other backs who appear to be more complete backs than White.

With Eddie Lacy in the fold, Rawls' value takes a big hit. I like Lacy more than Rawls and will draft accordingly.White appears to have won the receiving running back job in New England, which is a good place to be for PPR leagues. Coach Belichick can screw you out of points on a week-to-week basis due to game plan, but with this offense, it won't happen too often as long as White remains the primary receiving back.

Rawls burst onto the scene in a big way at the end of 2015. However, like Icarus, he flew too close to the sun and plummeted to earth. Rawls' late 2015 injury affected him throughout 2016, and now here we are, ranking him at nimber 58 out of 60. There is real upside here, but it would have to come in the form of straight up outplaying Eddie Lacy, an Eddie Lacy Injury, or barring either of those, Eddie Lacy getting indigestion or an asthma attack or something..White scored three touchdowns (including the game winner) in Super Bowl LI, and there was serious talk that he should have been the MVP instead of Tom Brady. Don't let this one game trick you into drafting White in 2017. White's 2016 season was barely fantasy flex-worthy, and with several new passing game additions as well as a healthy Dion Lewis to leech catches, White might even score fewer fantasy points this year.

Rawls was a disappointment last season due to injuries and poor play. The addition of Lacy in Seattle makes it difficult for Rawls to have any real Fantasy value. Auction Value $4 Super Bowl hero James White caught 60 passes last season with five for touchdowns. Historically, it's been tough to predict production out of Patriots running backs. White appears to be safe. Auction Value $8
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
After averaging 5.6 yards per carry in his rookie season, Rawls just didn't look the same returning from his ankle surgery, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. He's someone who continually works his way up my draft board, as he is reportedly looking more and more like his 2015-self. If that's the case, he could be one of the steals at the end of drafts. The "should have been" Super Bowl MVP has been underrated this off-season, but not by the people that matter most. The Patriots extended him this off-season and paid him more than any other running back on the roster. He was the only player who finished in the top-36 last year without seeing at least 110 touches. If his role grows, as we expect it to, White should be in the running to finish as an RB2 in PPR leagues and a solid RB3 in standard leagues.
