Derek Brown FantasyPros | Dalton Schultz crushed last season at the TE5 in weekly fantasy scoring. His upside this season is even higher as he could enter the top three discussion at his position. In his first season with a featured role, he ranked 11th in yards per route run and 14th in targets per snap. With Michael Gallup questionable to begin the season at full health and only James Washington and Jalen Tolbert behind CeeDee Lamb, Schultz should easily carve out his role as the number two option in the Dallas passing attack. | We have likely seen the ceiling already for T.J. Hockenson, but that shouldn't be construed as shade. Hockenson has now logged back-to-back TE7 finishes in fantasy points per game which is still extremely good, but it's doubtful he ever reaches the heights of top 3-5 status. He's also ranked 11th in each of the last two seasons in yards per route run (minimum 50 targets per PFF). With added target competition with the additions of Jameson Williams and D.J. Chark, Hockenson remains a top ten option at the position. Still, his ceiling is likely capped, keeping him outside the top five. |
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | Coming off a stellar season as PFF's sixth-highest-graded tight end (78.2), Dallas placed the franchise tag on Dalton Schultz off the career season and released veteran Blake Jarwin. Big D's No. 1 tight end wrapped up the 2021 season sixth in route participation (77%) and third in overall routes run (586). The highly-coveted role within the constrains of a high-powered offense ensures that Schultz will be in the back-end fantasy TE1 conversation for the third straight season. Only Darren Waller, Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews have scored more fantasy points at the tight end position since the start of 2020. With Dak Prescott's trust firmly in hand and Amari Cooper out the door, it's possible that Schultz builds off his ninth-ranked 16% target share entering Year 5. | T.J. Hockenson's season cut short by injuries has left a bitter taste in fantasy football managers' mouths. But the hate is unwarranted, as Hockenson was well on his way to a career year with the Lions. Through 13 weeks, the Detriot Lions tight end ranked sixth in points per game, fifth in targets per game (7), first in route participation (85%), third in target share (19%) and third in air yard share. Averaging over one more fantasy point from the year prior, Hockenson fits the mold as a post-hype sleeper after he failed to truly break out in 2021. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Schultz had 78 receptions for 808 yards and 8 TD receptions last year. He should be in the TE1 conversation as a key part of the Dallas passing game. | Hockenson missed the final four games of the season, but when he was in there he had some strong games with six-double digit games. The downside is he had four games with six points or less, due to a bad offense. If the Lions can improve the offense in 2022, Hockenson has the talent to be an elite TE1. |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | After a career-best 78-808-8 season, Schultz hit free agency and re-signed with the Cowboys for one year at nearly $11 million. The decision to stay in Dallas preserves his fantasy value, and the departure or Amari Cooper should keep Schultz's target total robust. | Didn't have the growth year we'd hoped for in 2021, but Hockenson's talent is obvious. Amon-Ra St. Brown's emergence creates target competition, and the Lions figure to add more WR help in the offseason. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | Back w/ Cowboys is best case scenario after finishing as TE3 in this role. Plus Jarwin = hip surgery, Cooper likely gone. Huge W for Schultz |
