Hail to Fantasy Football
Tough to rank after landing in Tampa, but he's just inside my top-30.
Jacob Wayne
Lineups
When the Falcons signed Todd Gurley, the former Offensive Player of the Year, they took one one of the most worrisome injury situations in the NFL. However, Gurley is reportedly ready to go, and it feels like a massive mistake to write off the 26-year-old player who once had 40 total touchdowns in two seasons. The Tampa Bay backfield is probably the most confusing in the NFL at the moment. The surprise signing of Fournette has made an already confusing situation even more cloudy as there are four players who could conceivably see a significant number of carries this season. I'm not sure if Fournette will adapt to the team's offense and Tom Brady's playing style in time to make a real impact this season, but he still has intriguing upside as a former first-round pick. I think he's a bit overrated at this point and I wouldn't reach for him just based on his name alone.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
The Falcons signed Gurley to a one-year contract less than 24 hours after he was released by the Rams. While he has regressed since ankle and knee issues began to slow him down in late 2018, Gurley did finish tied for fifth in the NFL in touchdowns in 2019.Tampa was an ideal landing place for Fournette: There's very little talent to compete with for snaps, and the Bucs' potent passing attack gives him a high TD ceiling. Still, Fournette has done very little as a pro to warrant more than a part-time committee role.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
Fournette lands in a favorable spot and should receive a steady workload with Brady and crew.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Gurley is going to be given all the touches he can handle in this Falcons offense, if he can stay healthy. If he proves that he can handle a significant workload, he'll easily outperform his ADP this season. However, there are legitimate reasons to doubt that he'll be able to withstand a heavy workload ever again, which makes him an incredibly risky pick.Fournette is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and joins what should be a prolific offense this season. While it's going to be near impossible for him to take over this starting job in 10 days, Fournette should receive some light work throughout the first few weeks of the season. However, after a few weeks, I'm projecting Fournette to take over the majority of the work in this backfield. It should still be somewhat of a committee approach with Ronald Jones, but Fournette will have some low-end RB2 value on a weekly basis. There is a small percentage chance that Fournette eventually takes over this job completely and sends Jones to the bench, but you shouldn't let that possibility affect your drafting judgement. The most likely scenario is that he's going to split time with Jones in this backfield and we should draft him accordingly.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Gurley may be the most difficult running back to evaluate heading into 2020. He's on a new team, he still has the knee problems and you just never know when he'll break down. If you like high-risk/high-reward guys, Gurley is your man.Now a member of the Buccaneers, Fournette's volume is bound to decrease from his usual workhorse role on the Jaguars. It's not all bad though considering he is joining what looks to be one of the best offenses in football. There will definitely be a timeshare between himself and Ronald Jones but I expect Fournette to be on the winning side of that split. I like him a lot more as a flex option than an RB2.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Todd Gurley sits right in the middle of the group of former fantasy studs who've moved to new teams and he arguably has the best situation. While he had an awful 2019 but he doesn't deserve the bulk of the fault. His knee issues didn't help but the biggest problems were his O-line, who blocked worse than SP15 sunscreen, and the offense that no longer ran through him like the glory years of 2017-18. Now in Atlanta, there's a good chance the former RB1 can return to his previous glory in an offense that made the questionable talent of Devonta Freeman a fantasy star. Sharing the workload is a possibility but the lack of talent behind him means he's locked into the main role and only injury can really knock him down from there. I love the upside but there is enough risk to wait until the late 3rd round before pulling the trigger.Leonard Fournette has shockingly been dropped from the Jaguars just weeks from the start of the season. It will be very difficult for him to provide meaningful value when turning up on an offense with so little time to learn it and the Buccs is an awful landing spot for all involved. With five relevant backs, Tampa Bay is a backfield worth avoiding as Fournette is unlikely to provide any reliable value. He shouldn't be dropped outside of shallow leagues but he is a fade in drafts.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Fournette signed with the Bucs after being released by the Jaguars. His contract ($2 million base, incentives based on playing time and rushing yards) suggests that he is expecting to see significant work. Still, given that he signed with the team a little more than a week before the season begins, it's going to take him time to get acclimated to the offense. Fournette can be considered a Flex play, but don't expect him to contribute immediately and, even when he does, he won't be a workhorse back given the presence of Ronald Jones.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
The Rams offense was in complete disarray last year, as their offensive line started to crumble, which dragged Gurley's efficiency down the drain. He did show that he's still able to handle a big workload down the stretch, finishing with 98 touches over the final five games. Now going to the Falcons, who have one of the better offensive lines in football, with little competition, Gurley could return to RB1 status. It's a high-scoring offense where the running backs have averaged 1,383 yards and 9.7 touchdowns on the ground, while averaging another 572 yards and 4.7 touchdowns through the air over the last three years. With Ito Smith and Brian Hill the only running backs behind him, Gurley should receive most of the work/production.The Jaguars decided to release Fournette just 10 days prior to the NFL season. Whew. The Bucs are the team who signed him, making their backfield a bit cloudier, which is problematic, because it was already cloudy. It's possible that we see Fournette share time with Ronald Jones the same way we saw with Peyton Barber. I do believe that Fournette is the most talented back on the roster, but I also felt like Jones was last year. What a mess. I wouldn't want to rely on anything more than RB3 production right out of the gate. There's top-12 upside here for sure, but it could just be a messy timeshare.

No Rams RB averaged over 3.8 a carry. Despite all the Gurley concerns, he still had 250 touches on the year, and graded equally as well in the run as the previous 2 years according to whatever PFF uses. His line play was terrible, 26th in the league. He now steps into just a favorable situation, behind a top 10 run blocking line in 2019, where his pass catching work should pop back up, even if TDs aren't quite as high, to provide another 250 touch season, and borderline RB1 potential as long as the knees allow it.Oof. No matter what you think of Fournette, touching the ball 341 times, and only getting 3TDs is not sustainable, in a good way. I don't have a problem thinking Chris Thompson or Laviska take away a significant amount of targets, I just need the TDs to normalize to get ROI.

If he stays healthy he could produce Freeman like numbers in Atlanta. He's a bit overlooked right now, but a great RB2 pick.A polarizing pick this season, his passing volume should decrease but his TD volume is bound to increase. Jacksonville won't be a top offense, so there's risk here.

If that arthritic knee is not an issue, I expect Gurley to show out for the hometown in Atlanta this season. Another value pick here, when everyone else is scared off and he falls to you, might as well grab hiim!Wow has Leonard Fournette been thrown under the fantasy bus lately. Sure the Jags are bad but he can produce for your squad. Some QB stability will go a long way too this season

The only legit RB for the Falcons in what should be a dynamic offense. Touches should be there, but concerns about health are legit. Falcons reportedly already are limiting his touches and has a "noticeable limp" in training camp. Was a true workhorse last year with 100 targets and 265 rush attempts. Concerns with new offensive weapons and scheme that may limit Fournette's receiving production. Also issues with team fit as they tried trading him this offseason and may not utilize him as a workhorse.

Given arthritic knees, a Gurley draft pick comes with restless sleep - but new offense and workload upside ripe with the kind of upside potential he enjoyed in LABiggest concern is not whether he'll see positive TD regression or take a major receptions hit with C. Thompson around, it's if JAX remains committed to him if/when losses pile up

365 touches last season and only 57 evaded tackles. 90th in fantasy points per opportunity. Jay Gruden brought in his guy Chris Thompson to catch passes out of the backfield.

Atlanta is a great landing spot for Todd Gurley--he should walk right into the 17.4 touches/game that Devonta vacated. Still a 4th rounder with durability concerns. Initial Gurley projection with Atlanta is 235 carries, 965 rushing yards, 8 rushing TD, 61 targets, 340 receiving yards, 2 receiving TD.Leonard Fournette only scored three rushing touchdowns in 2019, but they accounted for every rushing score for the Jaguars. Those three rushing touchdowns were the lowest from a team since the 2005 Cardinals. Only 13 other teams in NFL history finished with that low of a total. (@LateRoundQB) I don't completely expect Fournette to stay as healthy as he did last year, but we should see some TD regression in 2020. In 2019 he set career highs in: games played: 15, rush yards: 1152, rushing 1st downs: 52, yards per att: 4.3, targets: 100, receptions: 76, receiving yards: 522, total touches: 341, total yards: 1674... for 6-10 team (@DFFMemphis)

Love his landing spot in ATL, especially the "rental" and "prove it" nature of the deal.Despite constant trade rumors, Fournette returns as the lone viable backfield option. Don't love his fit in Jay Gruden's pass-centric attack, but just some slight positive TD regression is likely.

Gurley will have a new lease on life in Atlanta and he did have 14 touchdowns last year, but he also averaged only 3.8 yards per carry, had very few big plays, and his arthritic condition in his knee makes him a dicey flex option.
