Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Urban Meyer is certainly known for valuing speed on the football field and the Jaguars have not been shy about their intent to draft Kadarius Toney if he were there at pick No. 25 in the NFL Draft. With Toney off the board, they went with the explosive RB prospect that can absolutely fly in Etienne. My belief is that the Jaguars intend to deploy Etienne as a traditional RB, but then also as a player that they will use all over the formation and simply get the ball in his hands. If that's the case, Etienne's going to be extremely valuable for fantasy football right away. He's a true home-run threat and he's an excellent receiver out of the backfield. As we sit here in early June, I wouldn't be shocked if Etienne finishes as a top-15 RB in fantasy right out of the gates. My Very Early Projection: 184-881-5 rushing & 71-607-2 receiving.Fantasy managers were feeling pretty good about Melvin Gordon heading into 2021 after Phillip Lindsay's departure, but that all came quickly crashing back down with the drafting of Javonte Williams. This season, it's likely that Gordon is still the lead back, but Williams is certainly going to see some work. This situation could end up being very similar to Baltimore's from last year with Mark Ingram and JK Dobbins, which doesn't exactly bode well for Gordon's season-long outlook. In my opinion, drafting Gordon as anything more than a low-end RB2 is a recipe for disaster. My Very Early Projection: 200-960-6 rushing & 27-174-1 receiving.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
When a team drafts a running back in the first round, history suggests they're going to use him a ton. In fact, there's been just one running back drafted in the first round over the last eight years who hasn't touched the ball at least 197 times, and that was Rashaad Penny, who's continually injured (it was also a shock to hear his name in the first round). Etienne was a favorite of many in this draft class, and is now tied to an offense that has Trevor Lawrence at the helm rather than Gardner Minshew/Mike Glennon. The Jaguars have also been using him as a wide receiver in camp, which is never a bad thing. In PPR formats, targets are worth 2.5 times as much as carries. He'll share some work with James Robinson, but make no mistake about it, Etienne is the lead back with the most talent. When the Broncos signed Gordon to a two-year, $16 million contract, you had to assume they were going to use him in a big role. That's not quite what happened, as they continually wanted to involve Phillip Lindsay. After letting him walk in free agency, they snagged Mike Boone, which was a downgrade from Lindsay. Okay... but that wasn't it. They drafted Javonte Williams at the top of the second round, a running back who'll certainly compete for touches immediately. Gordon isn't going to simply go away making the money he is, but he's also not likely going to get the 16.5 touches per game he was in 2020. There's also a possible suspension coming Gordon's way for a DUI incident last year, which needs to be factored into his fantasy stock. He's not someone you should be relying on for anything more than RB3/flex production.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
Etienne is an explosive RB who joins his Clemson teammate, QB Trevor Lawrence, in Jacksonville. Both former Tigers should provide some much needed pop to a stagnant Jaguars offense. The concern 1.) It sounds like Urban Meyer sees Etienne as a slash player- Curtis Samuel, Percy Harvin, etc. They want to line him up part of the time at WR. This is different than the position he played at Clemson for Coach Dabo Swinney which was RB. It could take him some time to get comfortable in his new role. Etienne has some serious wheels and will make plenty of big plays. Ringo's comp- a combo of Alvin Kamara/Jamaal Charles.Gordon's days in Denver seem to be numbered. The old regime signed him in free agency. They're gone now. The Broncos drafted Javonte Williams. At best Gordon is in a RBBC on a shaky offense. The best thing that could happened would be him getting traded or cut and going to a better team where he could be a three down RB once again. If that doesn't happen, I don't see much upside here. Avoid
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Running with the WR's in rookie camp can only help his versatility. He played 84 career snaps in the slot or out wide in 55 games at Clemson, which may not seem like a lot, but the college game is different.Gordon will most likely dominate the receptions, two-minute offense, and goaline touches at RB for the first half of the season. When Gordon starts to break-down Javonte Williams should seamlessly start to take-over.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Etienne will have to compete for touches with James Robinson, but teams do not take a running back with the 25th pick to be a backup. Etienne will have a receiving role and should see carries and be an upside flex option, especially in PPR formats.Gordon had a solid year with 182.4 considering all the injuries and bad quarterback play the Broncos had this year. Gordon is going to lose touches to Javonte Williams, but Gordon should still be a flex option.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Gross Year 1 landing spot -- Urban Meyer already pledging 3-headed nightmare, though the draft capital should suggest otherwise and his talent could send him into a souped-up Percy Harvin roleUpdate - the Broncos TRADED UP to get Javonte Williams, and MGIII is on his last year. Williams will take over this backfield sooner than later, and Shurmur prefers a workhorse so MGIII might be meaningless by 2021's end
