NFL Mock
He will probably lose end-zone targets with Sammy Watkins in the mix, but he will remain a focal point of this offense. He saw more volume with Beckham out, but Brandon Marshall isn't there to start this year either. I think we'll see Engram line-up on the outside this year and he'll look more like a WR than a TE.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
He and D. Walker are only two TEs to have 800+ yards in each of past 4 seasons - fair to consider how things can change from QB A. Smith to young gun P. Mahomes, but it'd be crazy for KC to veer too far away from the ridiculous athleticism that Kelce brings to their TE position
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
While some will try to make the argument for Kelce over Rob Gronkowski, I won't be one of them, simply because the Chiefs now have an abundance of offensive weapons that are going to need touches. They signed Sammy Watkins for nearly $50 million, which tells you how much they wanted him, and Tyreek Hill has remained as efficient as ever, so it's hard to argue that you should take targets away from him. Ultimately, I still love Kelce as an asset, but he's lost some of the upside he presented in 2017, which still had him finish eight points behind Gronkowski... and he played one more game than Gronkowski did, too. The change in quarterback may not be a downgrade, but don't call it an upgrade. Everything that could have went Engram's way last year in terms of targets, did. Both Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall were place on I.R. early in the season, while Sterling Shepard was in and out of the lineup with injuries. Not only are Beckham Jr. and Shepard back to full health, but the Giants just spent the No. 2 pick on Saquon Barkley, who is essentially another receiver. Engram is still likely to be a TE1, but I'm not touching him where he's being drafted. In the four games where he saw less than seven targets in 2017, he averaged just 1.5 receptions for 16.3 yards and no touchdowns.
Staff Rankings
QB List
Kelce, unlike Gronk, has been a beacon of health over the last four seasons. However, Gronk has the reliability of a quarterback like Tom Brady, whereas Kelce will be relying on Patrick Mahomes and his one career start. Alex Smith, love him or hate him, was very very good last season. Mahomes is likely going to represent a step backward, which makes for caution around Kelce. Still, his body of work is elite enough that he's a top three tight end unless Johnny Manziel is his QB.Engram was able to haul in 64 catches for 722 yards in his first season thanks to an obscene 115 targets. With Odell Beckham back and Saquon Barkley in the fold, it's unlikely that Engram will have that kind of usage once again. Factoring in Engram's pedestrian 55.7% completion percentage, and you have a player who might disappoint a lot of owners next season. The raw talent is still there, and I could still see him pulling a top-ten season. I just won't be buying him over many other safer options.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
Kelce led all tight ends in fantasy points last season but will have a new quarterback and offensive coordinator for 2018. I like Patrick Mahomes quite a bit and think he could help Kelce put up even better numbers, but he's also a wild card. I won't be drafting any tight end early this season, so ADP will help dictate where my priorities lie.Engram was much needed last season with multiple injuries in New York, but this year, the return of Odell Beckham Jr. and drafting Saquon Barkley, will make his targets much tougher to find.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Not only has Kelce missed just one game in four seasons, but he also has more yards than Gronk in that time. The reason I do not have him over Ertz is that I am of the party who believes Pat Mahomes is a major step back from Alex Smith. Last season, Smith was among the most efficient passers in the league on both deep balls and short passes. Mahomes has played one game so I'm unwilling to buy into him on the same level as an MVP candidate like Smith, and that means I'll be cautious with his assets as well.If you think Engram will see 115 targets with Odell Beckham back in the lineup and Saquon Barkley joining the fold then you've got a big surprise coming. Chances are, he won't even see 90, and considering he's got some of the worst hands at the position, Engram may end up being the biggest disappointment at the position.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
After ending 2016's star-making breakout second in receptions (85) and first in receiving yards (1,125) among TEs, Kelce finished last year first in catches (83) and second in yards (1,308). He took the position's top PPR ranking each time. He's a worthy third-round pick who should go shortly after, if not before Rob Gronkowski.Engram defied one of fantasy's most common axioms by recording a TE5 finish in his rookie campaign. He'll need to again silence skeptics who point to his 55.7 catch % (64-of-115) and 11 drops. The Giants should run more after drafting Saquon Barkley, who will also poach some targets as a more trustworthy safety valve for Eli Manning. They also got some guy named Odell Beckham Jr. returning, so don't expect another top-five outcome.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
While Kelce isn't #1, he still is an elite TE and can't be dropped out of the top 5. Due to his talent, role and upside, he remains my 1B to Gronk's 1A.Engram showed real potential last year, but with Odell back I'm a bit hesitant to crown him as some stud.
Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
Some concern over his target number with Watkins in town and Nagy out of itShould have a big season if the Giants don't add another receiver
Derek Lofland
Fantasy Football Maniax
Kelce may take a step back this year if the Chiefs move on from QB Alex Smith, but he is still going to see a ton of targets and he is a great red zone threat. Engram was one of the bright spots in a horrible season for the Giants and he should be a TE1 for years to come.
