FantasyPros
Not only was he worthy of a first-round pick last year, but there are now question marks surrounding the No. 1 receiver on his team that could boost his targets to even higher heights. Not that he needs them, as his 150 targets were tied for fourth all-time among tight ends. Kelce gives you consistency and predictability at a very unpredictable position and an advantage every week. If you want to take him at the end of the first-round or beginning of the second-round, you shouldWith Antonio Brown out of town, many will automatically assume that Smith-Schuster will get more targets. You shouldn't be so quick to jump aboard that train. He saw 166 targets in 2018, which ranked fourth in the league. On top of that, the Steelers threw the ball a league-high 687 times. On top of that, he'll now see a bit more shadow coverage from top cornerbacks, making life a tad difficult. He's still going to be the focal point of their pass-attack, making him worthy of a second-round pick
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Kelce is in the best system and is has high volume and elite TD upside. He's entrenched in my #1 spot at tight end.JuJu is a beast in his own right and takes over Antonio Brown's old role. Why are we having reservations about this?
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
What more can owners ask of Kelce, who has finished as the tip tight end and totaled at least 1,000 yards receiving in three straight seasons. You want a negative? With Tyreek Hill set to avoid suspension, Kelce won't see the likely uptick in targets he otherwise would have. Fantasy owners will have to settle for just having the best tight end in the game put up his usual dominant stat line. Buy with confidence, obviously, and draft him as a borderline first-rounder.What do you get when you take an elite wide receiver and you open up 168 targets by trading away one of the best receivers in the game? You get Smith-Schuster's 2019 season, and it's going to be glorious. Yes, he'll see more attention from defenses, but the Steelers will be creative enough to get him free. Plus, he has scored a touchdown in all three games that Antonio Brown has missed during Smith-Schuster's career. Expect an increase from the 166 targets he saw last season and another huge year.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
JuJu Smith-Schuster has been "focused on" being a threat on the outside and his preseason usage from last week suggests he'll play a lot less slot (23% of snaps) than he did last year (59% of snaps). @HaydenWinks
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
He's the new, more durable Gronk (just 1 DNP in past 5 seasons) - matchup nightmare, lethal QB connectionHe's likely to have to work harder with A. Brown out of the picture, but Juju is in the mold of guys like Anquan Boldin and Hines Ward who didn't mind working hard and played like they were born to play football
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Big time advantage at TE if you draft Kelce. I would prefer to draft a RB/WR in the first round, but cannot argue with Kelce in the second.Juju is going 100/1600/10 this season. He is a beast and while people think the TDs may not be there, he was second in the league with 16 red zone receptions last season.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
According to True Target Value, a pass Mahomes to Kelce on the road resulted in more expected fantasy points than any other combo in the NFL. There's no reason to think that the young studs are going to slow down this season, especially with Hill still around to stretch the field.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Kelce scored the most fantasy points of any tight end in the last five seasons last year. He may shatter that clip this season and approach Gronk's enormous 2017 total of 331 PPR points if Tyreek Hill were to suffer an injury.. Kelce wasn't far off at 295 last year. If he can jump another 40 points, we'd be looking at the WR1 if he qualified for that possession. Kelce is absolutely worth a top 20 pick this year. There is no doubt about it that JuJu was the best slot receiver in football last year. Part of that, of course, had to do with Antonio Brown drawing loads of attention, and it remains to a question how he will perform outside versus stronger cornerback matchups. The target share is expected to improve but that assumes Big Ben again throws a league-high 675 passes which seems unlikely.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
If Tyreek Hill misses this season from his pending suspension, Kelce stands to be the biggest benefactor. A huge factor in the receiving game in the league's most dynamic passing offense, Kelce's a no-brainer of a pick at the Tight End position. Currently, I have no issue with taking Kelce at the back end of the 1st round due to the positional advantage he brings. The Steelers passed an absurd 689 times in 2018, which lead to incredible opportunities for both Antonio Brown and Juju. With Brown now in Oakland, there's the potential for Juju to step in and receive a ridiculous amount of targets. However, I'm projecting the Steelers offense to move more towards a balanced approach by running the ball more and Juju is going to draw consistent double team coverage. While I still believe Juju can prevail under these circumstances, expectations need to be tempered with the young 22 year old.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
There is a very real case to be made in drafting Kelce in the first round this season. A big part of that decision is going to come down to the potential suspension of Tyreek Hill. If Hill isn't suspended, then he should be taken in the early second round. If he is though, I'd highly consider drafting Kelce in the late first round. My current projections have Hill being suspended for a majority of the season (although recent news makes this less likely than it was before). In this set of projections, Kelce is projected to outscore the next best TE by 50 half PPR points. That sort of weekly advantage over your opponent is absolutely massive, and is something that can be the difference maker between a playoff team, and a championship team.Juju has the 4th most receptions of all time through a WR's first two seasons. And that was with AB there. AB accumulated 168 targets last season. Try to wrap your head around that. Juju had 166 targets last year…and now 168 have just been vacated. Please don't listen to people who tell you that he'll do worse because he's the #1 now. There is absolutely a chance that he regresses on a per target basis, but there is very little talent in that WR core and they are going to find themselves down more than usual. 180 targets is well within his range of outcomes. My latest projection update has Juju with 175 targets, and he has edged past Adams with my top overall projection
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Kelce had 1,336 yards receiving and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2018. Considering the quality and youth of the Chiefs offense, Kelce should continue to put up monster numbers in 2019.Smith-Schuster should be the lead receiver in Pittsburgh with WR Antonio Brown on his way out the door. Smith-Schuster had 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and 7 touchdowns last year and he should be primed for a big jump in Year 3 as the lead receiver.
