FantasyPros
There are real questions surrounding Gurley as we enter the 2019 season. Not only did C.J. Anderson play over him during the playoffs, but the Rams also traded up to the start of the third-round to select Darrell Henderson, an explosive running back out of Memphis. The Rams also matched an offer sheet the Lions submitted to backup running back Malcolm Brown, meaning the Rams are more worried about Gurley than they're letting on. We all know Gurley comes with plenty of upside, but we also know you can't win your fantasy league in the first-round, but you can definitely help lose it.Not only was he worthy of a first-round pick last year, but there are now question marks surrounding the No. 1 receiver on his team that could boost his targets to even higher heights. Not that he needs them, as his 150 targets were tied for fourth all-time among tight ends. Kelce gives you consistency and predictability at a very unpredictable position and an advantage every week. If you want to take him at the end of the first-round or beginning of the second-round, you should
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Gurley slides in my rankings due to health, last year's slide and the arrival of talent at his position. H e just may end up being a massive steal in round two (or 3!), but the risk this early is quite clear.Kelce is in the best system and is has high volume and elite TD upside. He's entrenched in my #1 spot at tight end.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Gurley was having one of the more dominant running back seasons in recent memory before injuring his knee late in the year. His playoff performance only added to fantasy owners' concerns, and the Rams' drafting of Darrell Henderson cemented those worries. His knee issues are reportedly the result of some sort of arthritis, which is obviously concerning. But even with a decreased workload, Gurley's spot as the lead back in an explosive offense makes him a borderline RB1, albeit not one without risk. What more can owners ask of Kelce, who has finished as the tip tight end and totaled at least 1,000 yards receiving in three straight seasons. You want a negative? With Tyreek Hill set to avoid suspension, Kelce won't see the likely uptick in targets he otherwise would have. Fantasy owners will have to settle for just having the best tight end in the game put up his usual dominant stat line. Buy with confidence, obviously, and draft him as a borderline first-rounder.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
No. 1 RB in '18 falls down the '19 draft list because of an arthritic knee that is expected to bring about a reduced-workload maintenance plan by the Rams - definition of a high risk/reward pickHe's the new, more durable Gronk (just 1 DNP in past 5 seasons) - matchup nightmare, lethal QB connection
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Big time advantage at TE if you draft Kelce. I would prefer to draft a RB/WR in the first round, but cannot argue with Kelce in the second.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
According to True Target Value, a pass Mahomes to Kelce on the road resulted in more expected fantasy points than any other combo in the NFL. There's no reason to think that the young studs are going to slow down this season, especially with Hill still around to stretch the field.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Gurley most certainly slowed down at the end of the year and comes with risk because of the unknown surrounding his knee. With that said, he was so exceptional each of the last two years that even with a 25% drop in production, he would still be an easy top 10 back. He still has more upside than any back including this year's big four so don't hesitate to snag him in the back end of the first round if you are feeling lucky.Kelce scored the most fantasy points of any tight end in the last five seasons last year. He may shatter that clip this season and approach Gronk's enormous 2017 total of 331 PPR points if Tyreek Hill were to suffer an injury.. Kelce wasn't far off at 295 last year. If he can jump another 40 points, we'd be looking at the WR1 if he qualified for that possession. Kelce is absolutely worth a top 20 pick this year.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
I never want to hear that my RB1 is managing his arthritic component in his knee and his usage in the postseason last year screamed that knee had some issues. He is still a RB1 in a great scheme, but I think the days of him being the best fantasy running back in the NFL are over, as the Rams will need to manage his touches for him to stay healthy.Kelce had 1,336 yards receiving and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2018. Considering the quality and youth of the Chiefs offense, Kelce should continue to put up monster numbers in 2019.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
If Tyreek Hill misses this season from his pending suspension, Kelce stands to be the biggest benefactor. A huge factor in the receiving game in the league's most dynamic passing offense, Kelce's a no-brainer of a pick at the Tight End position. Currently, I have no issue with taking Kelce at the back end of the 1st round due to the positional advantage he brings.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Unfortunately, I will not have any shares of Todd Gurley this season. It's not that he can't have a good year, it's just that it's not worth the risk. With Darrell Henderson drafted to fill the Alvin Kamara role, his upside is capped. We know he's never again going to see the same sort of volume he has over the past few seasons, so even being in this prolific offense might not be able to save him. There is absolutely a chance that Gurley pays off his ADP and carries your team to the championship. However, it's unlikely, and just not worth the gamble. Unless he falls to the third round I can't justify drafting him. There is a very real case to be made in drafting Kelce in the first round this season. A big part of that decision is going to come down to the potential suspension of Tyreek Hill. If Hill isn't suspended, then he should be taken in the early second round. If he is though, I'd highly consider drafting Kelce in the late first round. My current projections have Hill being suspended for a majority of the season (although recent news makes this less likely than it was before). In this set of projections, Kelce is projected to outscore the next best TE by 50 half PPR points. That sort of weekly advantage over your opponent is absolutely massive, and is something that can be the difference maker between a playoff team, and a championship team.
