Sleepers and Busts
Cam Akers tore his Achilles. He's out for the year. Best guess is the Rams acquire a RB via free agency or through a trade to share to workload with Henderson so he doesn't wear down. When Rams GM Les Snead drafted Henderson he viewed him as a complementary RB. The comp he gave was he's our Alvin Kamara. Kamara is an incredible fantasy RB, but he's not a bell cow. He's a committee guy. Sean Mcvay said the problem with Darrell is availability- meaning he can't stay on the field. Possible replacement candidates for Cam include: LeVeon Bell, Adrian Peterson, Kareem Hunt, David Johnson, Melvin Gordon, or James Robinson. However, if the Rams stand pat and give Henderson the bulk of the workload he could be a league winner. In the long term, for those in dynasty leagues, Achilles' injuries are tough to come back from. Mikel LeShoure was never the same RB after he tore his. Hopefully Cam can make a full recovery, but if it was me I'd sell and get what I could.49'ers RB Jeff Wilson's knee injury in May (out 4-6 months) forces everyone to move up one rung. Rookie RB Trey Sermon suddenly becomes very interesting. Preach it Brother Ringo! He's a heartbeat away from the starting role in San Fran. He lit up Clemson in the college football playoffs and looked good doing it. The 49'ers have one of the better lines in the NFL. Rookie QB Trey Lance lurks though. If Lance takes over at QB he could vulture some TDs. The comp by scouts is Josh Allen. That said, if Sermon's price tag doesn't skyrocket over the summer he could be a nice sleeper. That said, I'm already hearing a lot of buzz about him on Twitter and it's only June. Now let us pray to the fantasy gods for good luck in 2021.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
The year-ending injury to Cam Akers opens a door of opportunity for Henderson, who, just like Akers, was a Day 2 draft pick by this regime. In fact, Henderson was more efficient than Akers in nearly every category last year, though Akers had the momentum at the end of the season. Will the Rams bring in another running back to compete with Henderson for the starting job? It would seem likely, though for now, Henderson is a rock-solid RB2 with top-10 upside. As of now, we have to assume it's Raheem Mostert as the starting running back, though Kyle Shanahan did trade up into the third round to get Sermon. This should tell you that Mostert is on a short leash, and to be fair, he hasn't been able to hold up to a workhorse workload. The 49ers have one of the softest schedules in the league among running backs, so if we start hearing whispers that Sermon will start right out of the gate, he should shoot up draft boards. For now, he should be viewed as one of the best bench stashes in fantasy football.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
While it's unfortunate on how we got here, Henderson's now in the conversation for a potential league-winner this upcoming season. With Henderson's talent and explosiveness, plus the projected leap this offense is about to take, Henderson could easily finish as a top-10 RB now. He might not see heavy target totals through the air, but he should see enough to compliment his work on the ground. If you drafted Henderson late already, you got an absolute steal. If your draft is still to happen, Henderson's worth viewing as a mid-range RB2 with incredible upside.Sermon now enters an offense that is set to explode under Lance and we could be looking at one of 2021's greatest fantasy steals. With Mostert above him on the depth chart - for the time being - Sermon's ADP will remain low enough where you don't have to rely on him as a starter. He can remain on your bench until he steps in as the lead option in this offense and you suddenly now have a potential locked-and-loaded RB2. With Sermon's skillset and size, he should be a factor around the goal line and he could see enough of a workload on the ground to bring a safe floor each week. We'll see a rotation of other backs in this offense, but Sermon figures to see 12-15 touches per week if he is the starter. We might have to wait a while until we get to the point where Sermon is the starter, but he's worth stashing on your bench for when that moment comes.
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
After the Akers injury, he feels right at the top of this tier with Gaskin and Davis. All three of these guys are firmly in the RB Dead Zone.I actually really like San Francisco as a landing spot. He might not start Week 1, but he could definitely be useful by midseason.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
The tragic and unfortunate injury to Cam Akers is forcing Henderson back into a starting role. A role he excelled with when given the opportunity. Expect the Rams to add some depth behind him, but for the time being...it's his show. He should be treated as a mid-range RB2 with upside in what should be a more explosive offense.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
The Rams have finished top 10 in rushing TDs in all 4 seasons under Sean McVay. They've also ranked top 10 in rushing attempts and yards in 3 of those 4 seasons. With Akers out for the season Henderson is in line for 15+ touches per game.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Henderson is the starter now with Cam Akers lost for the season with an Achilles injury. Henderson figures to be a RB2 with RB1 upside, depending on who the Rams sign to replace Akers.I do not think Wilson and Mostert will stay healthy this year and when all is said and done, Sermon should emerge as the lead back in SF.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
An Akers injury away from a role that saw him eat for Top-12 numbers early last year, esp with Malcolm Brown now gone.Absolutely perfect landing spot, should thrive in Shanny's zone blocking scheme
