Despite them drafting two running backs, Montgomery likely isn't going anywhere. He offers something in the passing game both Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones don't, wide receiver skills. His 5.1 yards after contact was the best in the NFL last year, though the sample size was small. He is apparently dealing with a soft tissue injury, which is not ideal when you're fighting off three up-and-coming rookies who have been playing the position for a long time. Those types of injuries can also linger throughout the season, making Montgomery a risky pick at his current ADP. You don't have to draft Johnson in this spot to get him, as his ADP is currently 13.11 as the 174th player off the board. Not only will Johnson have borderline flex-value while playing second-fiddle to Isaiah Crowell, but he'd be an RB1 if Crowell were to miss time. Johnson's talent is the reason he was drafted in the seventh-round last year, not because of his situation.

He was an advanced metric darling in his trial run as a RB in '16, and he really only needs to prove he can pass protect this preseason to open '17 as the unquestioned backfield leader in GB

Montgomery has plenty of ability and should at the very least compete for No. 1 running back touches in a great offense. The Packers did add competition, but Montgomery has the upper hand, and unless news turns sour for his shot as the lead back, I'll be targeting him.I'm a big Hue Jackson fan and think he can get this running game going even with scrubs/rookies at quarterback, so I like Johnson, but will only be targeting him in PPR leagues.

QB List
As anyone who has owned former Packers RB Eddie Lacy can attest, the Packers can be maddening in their backfield misuse. Still, they are a top-shelf offense, and the lead back job appears to be Montgomery's to lose. As a converted wide receiver, he offers reception upside that Lacy never really had. There is top-6 upside if Montgomery can get enough touches.Johnson is one of my favorite last-round stashes. He costs almost nothing, and could easily become a top flex play with some positive TD regression.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Comparisons are anywhere from David Johnson to complete bust. Last years production should be considered a floor (12.9 ppr ppg)Hue Jackson expects the Miami Hurricane career rushing record holder, Duke Johnson to play a big role in 2017. Reports are that Johnson is attending several different position meetings in order to stay on the field no matter the formation or situation. Johnson is in his third year in the NFL and is still looking to break-out. Johnson's metrics are most comparable to Gio Bernard whom Hue Jackson coached and for three years in Cincinnati. If Johnson is able to expand his role this year we could see league winning potential from him. He's currently being drafted in the tenth round, but his ADP is on the rise, coming up a full round in the past month.

5th Down Fantasy
HC McCarthy: "He's a running back;" 5.9 YPC in 2016; led NFL in yards after contact per touch (2.8); GB letting Lacy go a good sign.
Derek Lofland
Fantasy Football Maniax
Montgomery has a chance to win the starting job and he would be an interesting flex option with RB2 upside in PPR leagues. He will likely be in a RBBC with rookie RB Jamaal Williams, who is pushing him for the starting job early in camp.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Last season, Montgomery only had one game with double-digit carries and it has to concern fantasy owners that the Packers went out and drafted three running backs this spring. Montgomery, however, apparently added plenty of muscle and improved his pass blocking this off-season which could make him a steal should he be able to hold off Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones for the starting role.Last season, Johnson and Crowell were neck and neck heading into the season, but Crowell got the carries and ran away with the duty. Should he falter this year or deal with an injury, Johnson would be the beneficiary of the stacked offensive line and a workhorses load of the carries. That is a low-end RB1 waiting to happen and the worst case scenario is that he is a flex worthy play with all of the work he'll see on third down.

Montgomery looks like a RB and really just needs to figure out pass protection. Role is still a question mark but the talent is there to make him a draft day steal.

Montgomery will start the season as the feature back in Green Bay and produce RB2 numbers. A timeshare with rookie back Jamaal Williams could develop later in the season. Auction value $18 Duke Johnson was terribly inconsistent in 2016. The Browns' offense will be better this season, so a bounce back could be on deck. Auction Value $2
