The one true 3-down back the Eagles have. The upside of a RB1, but will need to bide his time.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
With the Panthers drafting McCaffrey so high this season, it seems unlikely that they would miss an opportunity to get him plenty of touches. That doesn't mean, however, that Stewart can't also be heavily involved in the offense. McCaffrey can be used out wide or in the slot as well. Stewart has been a quality running back for some time including last season when he wasn't injured so don't sleep on him. With Ryan Mathews now out of town, Smallwood is the main competitor for Blount's carries. Even if he can't beat him out or split early-down carries, we should be looking at a reliable 3rd down pass catcher.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
Christian McCaffrey won't take over Stewart's job completely, but it's going to be tough for Stewart to beat him out for touches all season. I'm done with Stewart as long as McCaffrey is healthy. The signing of LeGarrette Blount hurt Smallwood's chances for work this year, but he's still in the mix.
Staff Rankings
QB List
True, the panthers went out and drafted themselves a shiny new Christian McCaffrey this year with the 8th overall pick. Still, Jonathan Stewart is practically free in drafts, and should have similar production to last year where he finished as the RB23 in standard on the force of his nine TDs.The Eagles have one of the best offensive lines in football, and they do not have a clear-cut lead back. There is a chance (however small) that someone like Smallwood might distinguish themselves, and should that happen, there could be some real upside.
Sablich Brothers
5th Down Fantasy
Should still see short-yardage/goal line work (that Newton doesn't get); 18 rushing touchdowns over past three seasons; good bet to get hurt and miss time at some point.

I'm not really sure why people are so down on a physical back who still has a big role on a team that loves to run.
Corey Parson
RotoExperts
Stewart's days as the feature back came to a end on draft day when the Panthers selected Christian McCafferey. Auction Value $2 Smallwood will likely spend 2017 on the wrong side of a timeshare with LaGarrette Blount. Auction Value $1
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It's been a roller coaster of an off-season for Stewart, as he had his contract extended, but then witnessed his team select two running backs with their first two picks. While Curtis Samuel isn't a traditional running back, he will get carries. And to spend a top-eight pick on a running back says a lot how they feel about their current situation. It's hard to see Stewart finish with more than 120 carries this season and he doesn't catch passes, so we're left with non-starter type numbers.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Carolina will probably be acquiring another RB this off-season, Stewart can't handle a bell-cow workload over a full season. When he is in line for 20+ carries in any given week he is a great start though. Whether it's DFS or your RB 3/4 he is a valuable asset to own.
