Philip Rivers squashes trade rumors

by Anthony Cervino | Tue, Jan 17th 5:42pm EST

According to Chargers beat writer Kevin Acee, quarterback Philip Rivers "is not pushing" for a trade out of Los Angeles to the San Francisco 49ers. Acee added that Rivers has a no-trade clause in his contract and that the signal caller is "fine" with the move from San Diego to Los Angeles. (Kevin Acee on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Jim Schultz of the Schultz Report later reported that Rivers is "disappointed in the LA move and wants to have say in GM/coach hiring process," suggesting that the trade rumors are, in fact, valid. However, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune heavily disagrees with the rumors being factual -- as his quotes are from the quarterback's mouth. This is a developing story that could linger on throughout the offseason unless further clarity is provided. If Rivers was actually on the trading block, he could garner a similar return that Sam Bradford had back in the summer when he was traded from Philadelphia to Minnesota -- the Vikings gave up a first round pick in 2017 and a conditional fourth round pick in 2018 in return for Bradford's services.
