Kirk Cousins to be "pursued" by 49ers in offseason

In this week's edition of Mort and Schefter's Notebook via ESPN, Adam Schefter believes the San Francisco 49ers will heavily "pursue" Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is an impending free agent, "as hard as they've pursued" Kyle Shanahan. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Cousins, who played the 2016 season under the franchise tag, is set to hit the open market if the Redskins elect not to sign him to a lucrative deal or place the franchise tender on him for a second consecutive year. However, Schefter reports that the 49ers won't be deterred -- as they are in dire need of a competent signal caller -- by how much money Cousins will command in a deal or the fact that he could be retained by Washington. San Francisco could package their second overall pick in this year's draft together with other selections and attempt to trade for Cousins, which is not an unlikely scenario. In either case, Cousins, who threw for 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2016, is poised to cash in when the new league year begins in March.
