Ty Montgomery permanently converts to running back

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy told the media Ty Montgomery will permanently convert to running back. "He's a running back. He wants to change his number," McCarthy said. (Ryan Wood on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Montgomery converted to running back early in the 2016 season after the Packers lost Eddie Lacy and James Starks to injury. The former wideout impressed so much that he will remain a running back moving forward. Montgomery received 77 carries for 457 yards rushing and three touchdowns this year, adding 44 receptions for 348 yards as a receiver. With Montgomery permanently transitioning, James Starks, Eddie Lacy and Christine Michael's future in Green Bay is in doubt. Michael and Lacy are impending free agents and could be let go, while Starks is entering his walk year in 2017. With a deep running back draft ahead, look for the Packers to address the position there and bring back one of their veterans to compliment Montgomery.
