Sammie Coates undergoes finger surgery

by Anthony Cervino | Tue, Jan 31st 5:03pm EST

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates (finger) underwent surgery this week to "repair fractures and tendon damage in his left ring and index fingers." (Jeremy Fowler on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Coates made an attempt to avoid surgery, but he ultimately underwent the procedure two weeks removed from Pittsburgh's AFC Championship loss to New England. After an uplifting start to the year, Coates finished the 2016 season with a surplus of underwhelming performances -- he totaled two receptions for 14 yards receiving in his last nine regular season games. He'll likely compete for a roster spot on a Steelers team loaded with talent at wide receiver.
