Houston Texans owner Bob McNair told the media that the team's "intentions [are] to try" to sign wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a long-term contract extension this offseason. (Aaron Wilson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Hopkins is entering his walk year in 2017. However, reports indicate that the Texans and their top receiver will eventually meet and attempt to come to terms on a new, long-term extension to prevent him from hitting the open market in 2018. Despite regressing in 2016, Hopkins remains one of the league's top wideouts. After producing an 111-1,521-11 stat line in 2015, his numbers dropped dramatically last season in which he only accumulated 78 receptions for 954 yards and four touchdowns. The blame for his regression likely falls on the arm of Brock Osweiler, who struggled mightily in his first year with the club. Look for the Texans to make a quarterback change in 2017. With an upgrade under center, Hopkins would likely return to his top five form.
