Ameer Abdullah could return for OTAs

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell told the media running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) is "coming along" in his recovery from foot surgery. "He’s coming along rehabbing and he’ll be able to, at some point in time, work out there on the field this spring. So we’ll see where he is," Caldwell said via DetroitLions.com. “Obviously, we know what he can do when he has the ball in his hands. He’s quick. He’s tough. He’s effective. He’ll bounce back and play well for us. He’ll be fine.” (DetroitLions.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Abdullah suffered a foot injury in Week 2 of the 2016 regular season. He was placed on the injured reserve list and did not return to the team for the remainder of the campaign. Although he is still recovering from the surgery he underwent last September, Abdullah is expected to be on the field for spring workouts in some capacity. Currently, the Lions have not upgraded their running back personnel this offseason, which is good news for Abdullah. He is slated as the No. 1 running back on the depth chart with Theo Riddick, the team's primary receiver out of the backfield, at the No 2 spot. However, with veteran talents that include Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles still floating around on the open market, the Lions could still make a move to improve their backfield. I also wouldn't count out the Lions selecting a rusher at some point during the NFL Draft in late-April.
