Ty Montgomery envisioned as a No. 1 back in Green Bay

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy told the media converted wide receiver Ty Montgomery "has the ability" to emerge as the team's No. 1 running back in 2017. “Obviously it’s a very heavy lifting position, so availability will be Ty’s No. 1 statistic,” McCarthy said via ESPN. “He’s a very talented young man, very bright, obviously understands the whole perimeter part of the offense now, so his utilization and the variation that he gives us as far as alignments and assignments and the different things that he can do will definitely benefit us as far as our offensive scheme. He just needs to have a great offseason ... but this is a big opportunity for him." (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Montgomery, who permanently converted to running back this offseason, has a chance to emerge as Green Bay's top rusher in 2017. Following the first waves of free agency, the Packers have yet to add a running back, leaving Montgomery as the current favorite to open the upcoming season as the starter. However, with players that include Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles and LeGarrette Blount still floating around on the open market, plus, the NFL Draft approaching in late-April, Green Bay is expected to add to their running back personnel. Still, expect Montgomery to garner a featured role in Green Bay's rushing attack for the 2017 season.
