Robert Turbin could be in line for expanded role in 2017

Indianapolis Colts beat writer Kevin Bowen believes running back Robert Turbin could be in line for an expanded role in 2017. "With [Frank] Gore turning 34 years old in May, it makes sense for the Colts to look into more Turbin," Bowen said via Colts.com. (Colts.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Turbin is coming off of a 2016 season in which he tallied career lows in rushing attempts (47), rushing yards (164) and rushing yards per game (10.9). However, he made the most of his limited carries by accumulating a career-best seven touchdowns on the ground -- he's only scored once in his five-year career prior to last season. Turbin also produced career highs as a receiver with a 26-179-1 stat line while playing in 15 games. As a result, the 27-year-old running back could be in line for an expanded role in 2017 as Frank Gore's primary backup. Gore, who will turn 34 in May, is not getting any younger and signs of aging are beginning to show. Despite rushing for 1,026 yards and four touchdowns last season, he hasn't averaged more than 3.9 YPC since 2014 (4.3). Turbin could begin to see an increased workload early in the 2017 season if Indianapolis intends to protect Gore's longevity for a playoff run. For fantasy football purposes, Turbin is worth a late-round flier and a stash on the fantasy bench in the event that father time finally pays Gore a visit.
