Jake Butt could see the field in 2017

by Anthony Cervino | Mon, May 1st 8:50am EDT

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway told the media rookie tight end Jake Butt (knee) could be medically cleared for football activities by "late August early, September." (Troy Renck on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Butt is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in December's Orange Bowl while still playing at Michigan. If Butt is cleared by August/ September as Elway suggests, he'll likely make his NFL debut at some point during the 2017 season. However, because of his injury/ recovery status, Butt is expected to open the upcoming campaign on the PUP list. With all the uncertainties that surround Denver's TE depth chart -- neither Jeff Heuerman, A.J. Derby or Virgil Green has emerged as the clear-cut starter in 2016, Butt could step into an expanded role upon his eventual return. Although he has minimal fantasy value in redraft league's to open the year, Butt is worth a stash for future considerations in Dynasty league formats.
