Donnel Pumphrey could be used in the slot this season

Donnel Pumphrey was drafted in the fourth round coming out of San Diego State as a running back. Although he is undersized, he had quite the workload in college. The pick made it seem as though the Eagles wanted to make sure they had a replacement for Darren Sproles. It was announced a week ago that the Eagles would likely take a ‘committee’ approach with the backfield that would include Pumphrey. Now there is speculation that Pumphrey could be used as a slot wide receiver come September. (Matt Lombardo, NJ.com)

Fantasy Impact:

A runner/receiver hybrid weapon could mean lots of things for fantasy. In Pumphrey’s situation this could be a positive for anyone who owns him. He would likely get carries and targets, which brings on more opportunities to get the ball. Of course this is all speculation for now as we don’t know Pumphrey’s true role, but be on the lookout for how the Eagles use him. If he does get the opportunity to play in the slot along with the backfield, his fantasy stock could rise up quickly.
