Tom Brady, Patriots entering a crucial year in 2017?

by Anthony Cervino | Wed, May 10th 8:49am EDT

New England Patriots beat writer Tom Curran believes the team will eventually trade quarterback Tom Brady or back him into retirement. (CSN New England)

Fantasy Impact:

Because the Patriots elected not to trade Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason, it indicates that they view him as their quarterback of the future. However, Garoppolo is entering his contract year and New England will have to make a choice. They could franchise tag him, sign him to a long-term deal, or move him at the 2017 trade deadline. Brady, who is under contract through the 2019 season, will turn 40 in August and will be 42 by the time his deal expires. How much does he have left in the tank? Well, he is showing no signs of regression, but 2017 could be the deciding year in his future with the Patriots. If his on-filed performance begins to decline, it wouldn't be surprising if New England moved on from Brady. After all, the NFL is a business.
