Josh McCown expected to open 2017 as Jets' starter

New York Jets beat writer Rich Cimini believes Josh McCown is the "heavy favorite" to open the 2017 season as the team's starting quarterback. (ESPN)

Although Christian Hackenberg has garnered praise this offseason from Jets' brass, McCown is still expected to enter the 2017 season as New York's starting quarterback. McCown, 37, is nearing the end of his playing career however and could be used as a bridge until the Jets are eliminated from postseason contention at which they'll likely turn to one of their younger passers.
