Dion Lewis expected to see a reduced role in 2017

by Anthony Cervino | Mon, May 29th 9:28am EDT

ESPN's Mike Reiss believes New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis will still have a spot on the team's 53 man roster for the 2017 season but in a condensed role. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

In the wake of Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead's addition to the Patriots' backfield this offseason, Lewis' role for the 2017 season is in question. The 26-year-old rusher, who is entering his contract year, "could fall into a Danny Amendola-type classification as a player who is carefully managed." Reiss believes Lewis' role will be condensed to playing "15-to-20 snaps per game with the hopes of preserving his health" as a kick returner and backup running back. Barring injury to the players slated ahead of him on the depth chart, Lewis will garner little, if any, fantasy football value for the upcoming campaign.
