Carlos Hyde receiving first-team reps at minicamp

San Francisco 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows is reporting running back Carlos Hyde is receiving first-team reps at minicamp. (Matt Barrows on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Although Hyde has received the bulk of the first-team reps throughout voluntary and mandatory workouts up to this point, Barrows believes "he’ll have to fend off a host of other tailbacks who seem well-suited for Shanahan’s offense" that include Joe Williams, Tim Hightower, Matt Brieda and Kapri Bibbs. However, I'm not too sure that anyone but Hyde will emerge as the Week 1 starter. When dissecting the 49ers' backfired from a fantasy football perspective, expect Hyde to open the 2017 season atop the depth chart with Williams acting as his primary handcuff and Hightower working as the team's third-down back/ pass blocking specialist. However, just because Hyde will likely start, it doesn't mean his job will be safe if he struggles or is once again bitten by the injury bug. Be sure to handcuff Hyde with whoever emerges as his top backup. Remember, this is mere speculation, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Hyde has only played in 34 of a possible 48 career games since entering the league in 2014.
