Eric Ebron 'overly excited' about 2017 role

by Anthony Cervino | Mon, Jul 10th 7:18pm EDT

Detriot Lions tight end Eric Ebron told SiriusXM NFL Radio Monday that he's "overly excited" about his role in the offense in 2017. (SiriusXM NFL Radio)

Fantasy Impact:

Ebron, who is tied with the Lions through 2019 -- Detriot picked up his fifth-year option this offseason -- is expected to garner an increased role in 2017. With Anquan Boldin unlikely to be re-signed -- he was the team's red-zone target leader (22) -- Ebron is the presumed favorite to see an uptick in his red zone opportunities as a result. Although he set career bests in 2016 with 61 receptions for 711 yards, Ebron only scored once. He'll need more action inside the 20 to fully be viewed a TE1 and to produce as one as well. Ebron will likely open the 2017 campaign as a high-end TE2 bordering the back-end TE1 tier.
