Carlos Hyde not a lock to start in 2017?

San Francisco 49ers beat writer Matt Maiocco believes running back Carlos Hyde is not a lock to open the 2017 season as the team's starter. "Hyde is probably still the favorite to win the starting job, but he will have to earn it, Maiocco said via CSNBayArea.com. "However it shakes out, it is probably safe to assume the club will employ more of a backs-by-committee approach with Williams and Tim Hightower available for key roles." (CSN Bay Area)

Fantasy Impact:

It appears, per reports, the 49ers will employ an RBBC approach to their ground game in 2017. Although Hyde is the favorite to enter the year on top of the RB depth chart, he'll likely be heavily pushed by rookie Joe Williams, who is highly touted by team brass. Rounding off the trio will be free agent acquisition, Tim Hightower. Assuming Hyde's health remains intact, Hightower is expected to take on a lighter workload than the aforementioned rushers due to his age (31). Still, Hyde is the 49ers' RB to target in upcoming drafts for fantasy football purposes.
