Kirk Cousins to play 2017 season under franchise tag?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins will likely play the 2017 season under the franchise tag. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Per Rapoport, "barring the unforeseen, there's a strong indication" that Cousins will indeed play the 2017 season under the franchise tag designation. The one-year tender is worth roughly $23.94 million in fully guaranteed money. Now, there is still about four days until Monday, July 17, which is the deadline for franchise tagged players to sign a long-term deal with their current clubs, but an agreement between Cousins and the Redskins is far from imminent, more so, unlikely. If Cousins does not get his extension, he is primed to hit the open free agent market in the 2018 offseason and is expected to be pursued by the San Franciso 49ers, who employ the signal caller's former offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, as their head coach. This story is worth monitoring up to Monday's deadline.
