Kerwynn Williams the favorite to enter 2017 as Cardinals' RB2

Arizona Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers is reporting head coach Bruce Arians "seems comfortable" with Kerwynn Williams entering the 2017 season as David Johnson's backup. (AZCentral.com)

Fantasy Impact:

The Cardinals elected not to bring back Chris Johnson, David Johnson's backup in the past two seasons, in 2017. However, with a light and unknown running back depth chart behind David Johnson, the role of his primary backup is in question. While the Cardinals decided to move Andre Ellington to wide receiver early in the offseason, it wasn't long before he was moved back to RB. Despite his presence, Williams is the favorite to open the upcoming campaign as the team's RB2. Williams, who is entering his fifth year in the NFL, has a light resume. He's only rushed for 545 yards and three touchdowns since his 2013 rookie season. From a fantasy football perspective, Williams is nothing more than a shot in the dark handcuff in the event David Johnson, fantasy football's top player regardless of position according to most experts, is sidelined at any point in 2017 due to injury. He'll likely go undrafted in fantasy drafts and available on waivers.
