Ty Montgomery a 'full threat?'

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero is reporting Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy deemed Ty Montgomery "the full threat" running back. "He's the full threat," McCarthy said of Montgomery Monday. "He can obviously run it, he can catch it, he can displace and run routes and catch it. He just needs the reps in pass protection, because he's actually really high in the ability for pass protection. That guy a stud now. He's got it in his body. He's a very good young player." Fantasy Impact:

Montgomery is entering the 2017 season as a highly-touted commodity coming out of the Packers' backfield -- he's been praised by team brass all offseason. Although he is currently Green Bay's RB1, the team addressed the running back position in the recent NFL Draft selecting Jamaal Williams in the fourth, Aaron Jones in the fifth and Devante Mays in the seventh. It seems like the pressure is on Montgomery. However, I believe the 24-year-old starter will be given every opportunity to flourish after his first full offseason training as an RB in the pros. For the RB2 spot, though, I'd expect a heavy training camp/ preseason position battle for that role between the three rookies with Williams the current favorite to emerge as Montgomery's primary backup.
