Ryan Tannehill restructures contract

by Jody Smith | Titans Correspondent | Wed, Mar 14th 4:50pm EDT

Ryan Tannehill has reworked his contract to help the Dolphins trim some payroll and get under the salary cap by Wednesday's deadline. Tannehill's 2018 cap number will drop from nearly $20 million to $8.6 million and he'll receive more money up front in the form of a signing bonus. The restructure played a big part in freeing up the necessary cap space for the Dolphins to sign WR Albert Wilson and WR Danny Amendola. (Armando Salguero on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact:

The move means that Tannehill will remain with Miami for at least one more season but won't preclude the Dolphins from drafting a new quarterback in the first round. As long as he's fully recovered from an ACL that cost him the entire 2017 season, Tannehill should enter training camp as Miami's starter. However, if the Dolphins use their No. 11 pick in the first round on a potential replacement, Tannehill's time as Miami's starter and as a fantasy QB2 could be nearing an end.
