Matt Ryan, Falcons agree to extension

by Anthony Cervino | Thu, May 3rd 4:07pm EDT

ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting the Atlanta Falcons and QB Matt Ryan have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth roughly $30 million per year and $100 million in guarantees. (Chris Mortensen on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Ryan's monster five-year extension will make him the league's first player to earn an amount of $30 million on a yearly basis. Now two years removed from an MVP season and a Super Bowl appearance, Ryan will once again go out there and prove he is amongst the league's best at his position. He followed up his outstanding 2016 campaign with a tremendous regression across the stat line, especially in the touchdown category. He threw for a career-high 38 in 2016, but only threw 20last season, his lowest total since his 2008 rookie season. From a fantasy perspective, I am not a believer in Matt Ryan without Kyle Shanahan, nor do I believe in Seve Sarkasian. Even with Calvin Ridley's addition, Matt Ryan will remain in the QB2 tier in my 2018 rankings.
