Trey Edmunds getting extra carries in OTAs

by Jody Smith | Fri, Jun 8th 10:49am EDT

Second-year Saints RB Trey Edmunds is among a group of young rushers vying for extra work in the New Orleans backfield in the wake of Mark Ingram's absence and pending suspension. Edmunds said "I'm going to put myself in the best position," and it's been noticed by the coaching staff, including head coach Sean Payton who said, "He's competing and he's one of those guys we'll take a look at and he'll have a chance to prove himself." Fantasy Impact:

Edmunds is competing with Jonathan Williams and rookie Boston Scott for touches behind starter Alvin Kamara. Undrafted out of Maryland, Edmunds played just 13 offensive snaps as a rookie but rushed nine times for 48 yards-- 41 of which came on a long TD-run in a blowout of Buffalo. Edmunds is likely behind Williams as the club's No. 3 back but could be on the fantasy radar if he manages to move up the depth chart in training camp. With Ingram suspended for the team's first four games, whoever wins that battle will have solid fantasy value, at least in September.
