Ronald Jones II

Ronald Jones moving his way up the depth chart

by Mike Tagliere | Tue, Jun 12th 9:10am EDT

Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that rookie running back Ronald Jones is slated to "share the load" with Peyton Barber, while veteran Charles Sims will have a chance to keep the third-down role he had last season. (Tampa Bay Times)

Fantasy Impact:

Just a few weeks ago we were told that Barber was the starter while Jones would be mixed in. If you've paid attention to second-round rookie running backs over the past decade, you'd know that they'll be utilized in their team's offense, barring a major setback in camp. Barber is a former undrafted free agent that the Bucs let sit behind Doug Martin and Sims while they combined for just 1,071 yards on 354 carries (3.03 YPC) the last two seasons. But now that they drafted a running back at the top of the second-round, they'll utilize him? Doesn't add up, right? You also shouldn't miss the part of the article that say Sims "will have a chance" to keep the third-down role, as he's guaranteed nothing. Expect Jones to receive at least 15 touches per game right out of the gate, making him a low-end RB2 with upside.
