David Johnson officially a holdout

by Jody Smith | Tue, Jun 12th 11:52am EDT

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson failed to report for the beginning of the team's mandatory minicamp and is reportedly seeking a new contract, per Adam Schefter, who tweeted "The two sides have been in discussions regarding a new contract and are hopeful a new deal will be reached before the start of the season." Fantasy Impact:

Johnson is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is only slated to earn $1.882 million in 2018. After missing almost the entire 2017 season, Johnson is trying to lock-up a lucrative, long-term deal with guaranteed money, which isn't a huge surprise. Hopefully, both sides will make progress towards a resolution and Johnson, who is reportedly healthy and gunning for a 1,000/1,000 yard season, will be ready to roll for Week 1. The sooner Johnson and the Cardinals can work out a deal, the better it will be for all involved, as Johnson has shown that he's one of the best young running backs in the game and certainly worthy of top-5 fantasy consideration in every format.
