Rex Burkhead preparing for key role in Patriots' offense

by Mark Leipold | Tue, Jul 3rd 9:16am EDT

Writer Bernd Buchmasser of The Pats Pulpit website believes that Rex Burkhead could "play a big role in his second year with the Patriots." Burkhead played just 17.1% of offensive snaps last season, but he totaled over 500 scrimmage yards and found the end zone a massive eight times, ranking second on the team. (Pats Pulpit)

Fantasy Impact:

Burkhead could be a thorn in the side of Sony Michel fantasy owners this season if he locks up the goal line back role on one of the league's most fantasy-friendly offenses. It's hard to see Burkhead in a consistent week-to-week role unless Michel is relegated to the bench with fumbling issues (or misses time with an injury). Burkhead is a nice pick in best ball formats because of his touchdown potential, but after the Patriots invested first-round capital in Sony Michel in the NFL draft, Burkhead will probably be playing second fiddle most weeks, making for tough start/sit decisions in seasonal fantasy leagues.
