Sam Darnold closes rookie campaign with dud in loss

by Mark Leipold | Jets Correspondent | Tue, Jan 1st 9:31pm EST

Sam Darnold completed 16-of-28 pass attempts for 167 yards and rushed once for 28 yards in the Jets' Week 17 loss to the Patriots. He also fumbled once in the game.

Fantasy Impact:

After enjoying a bit of a breakout late in the season, Darnold closed his rookie campaign with a dud, though he was under pressure quite a bit in the game. Darnold is still incredibly young for a starting QB, and showed essentially all of the positive signs his fans and fantasy owners could hope to see, despite having an unexciting supporting cast. If the Jets upgrade some of their offensive skill position players or the offensive line, Darnold should take a step forward next season. Expect him to move into the mid-range QB2 conversation pending Jets offseason moves.
