Dee Ford receives franchise tag, but Chiefs ‘will listen to trade offers’

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chiefs are placing the franchise tag on pass-rusher Dee Ford. Schefter added the Chiefs “will listen to trade offers” for Ford. (Adam Schefter on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact:

It’s an interesting situation as the Chiefs appear to be shopping Ford as they transition to a 4-3 defense. As pointed out by ProFootballTalk, Schefter refers to Ford as a linebacker, but Ford may argue that he should be classified as a defensive end. What’s the difference? The 2019 tag for defensive end is $17.128 million while for linebacker it is $15.443 million. That’s a nearly $2 million difference in salary. Ford had 14.5 sacks in 18 games (including postseason) in 2018. The team has also been said to be shopping veteran pass-rusher Justin Houston.
