Landon Collins will not receive franchise tag

The Giants have informed safety Landon Collins that he will not be franchise tagged before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline. He will now become an unrestricted free agent on March 13th. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter )

This had been the expected outcome for several weeks and was all but confirmed when Collins cleared out his locker at the Giants’ facility. Tagging Collins would have cost the Giants $11.15 million for the 2019 season. Collins, a three-time Pro Bowler, expressed his appreciation for the organization that drafted him and thanked his teammates and fans in a statement on Twitter. “I want to thank the Giants organization for believing in me and allowing me to have four great years in NY,” Collins wrote. “I can’t express how great it was to play with my teammates and in one of the greatest cities in the world. I will forever cherish my time in the blue and white and the relationships I have built in the building and in my community. Now on to the next chapter.”
