Saints quarterback Drew Brees has a torn ligament in his throwing thumb and is going to require surgery, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Rapoport adds that "The timeframe depends on the surgery, but he’s likely out 6 weeks." Teddy Bridgewater is expected to start at quarterback for the Saints. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that Brees is expected to undergo surgery on the thumb as early as today. The Saints have a bye week in Week 9, so Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons could be a realistic return date for the veteran quarterback. Monitor his status in the coming weeks, but fantasy owners should expect to be without Brees for at least the next month and a half.
