Eagles beat writer Mike Kaye believes Philadelphia views Jalen Hurts as more of a genuine quarterback and thus will take a conservative approach with his development rather than throwing him out on the field early on in package situations this season. (NJ.com)
After selecting Hurts in the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Eagles GM Howie Roseman hinted that Hurts could be part of package situations on the field, similar to how the Saints utilize the skillset of Taysom Hill. That may be unlikely to happen, at least early on, given the offseason circumstances as well as the Eagles intent to develop Hurts into a genuine quarterback. As reported last month by head coach Doug Pederson, Nate Sudfeld is likely to backup Carson Wentz due to his understanding of the offense, but don’t be surprised if Hurts gets a shot as the starter should Wentz face any setbacks this season.
