Cam Newton will be the starter in New England if he’s healthy

Patriots QB Cam Newton has not been guaranteed the starting job, however, according to sources, if he’s fully healthy, it’ll be his job to lose. (Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Newton signed a one-year prove it deal of up to $7.5M in incentives. If he’s healthy, and that’s the key after shoulder and foot injuries the past couple seasons, he’ll be the unquestioned starter for the Patriots. When that happens, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will have to tailor the offense to fit the skillset of his new quarterback. This likely means more packages that involve designed quarterback runs and run-pass options. This will be a big change from all the years calling plays with Tom Brady at the helm, but McDaniels has proven his ability as a play-caller and should have no issues tailoring his scheme to fit Newton‘s strengths. Look for Cam to be a high-upside QB2 as the starter in New England this season.
